Carbamazepine Causing Constipation
I have been prescribed Carbamazepine 200 MG twice daily for pain resulting from Peripheral Neuropathy (non Diabetic related).
After taking the prescribed dosage for several days with a reduction in pain, especially while sleeping, I have experienced a severe constipation problem. Anybody else experienced this problem and if so what steps or procedures to eliminate this problem? I have been told to increase my Magnesium daily intake, use a high fiber supplement daily like Metamucil and eat a high fiber diet. Done all above with little effect. |
OP: So many pharma drugs will do the constipation job on us. I agree more magnesium and I use citrate and take it thru the day, some days I will ingest over 1000mg and then I add Vit C a few times daily, take more since the CV stuff. I also found Ox Bile or Acid Bile Factors help with the constipation issue, many talk about these two and gallbladder issues and talk about how they help the "sluggish bowel" issues.
I have a history of constipation anyway and with getting older etc, need to do more supplementing.....Good to move as much as we can and I deal with OA issues and that's gotten harder, so I stretch a lot. I don't know the drug you mention and for the most part I avoid the pharma drugs. Watch your foods too, reduce heavy meats and keep "room temp" water going into your body. Drink water all day, and I'm not saying gallons. |
Hi DallasCop2566
Welcome to NeuroTalk :). This information about Carbamazepine may help you. Carbamazepine Uses, Dosage & Side Effects - Drugs.com Constipation has not been reported as a side-effect of it. I suggest that you discuss this with your doctor; maybe another drug would meet your needs better. Best wishes. |

Caroline2, thank you so much and yesterday I was suggested by another person to look into the benefits of Grape Seed Extract. I will try it, I researched the benefits and find this certainly can not hurt and possibly may help.
Thanks again and join me in prayer that this virus situation becomes under control and the many researchers develop a vaccine in a timely manner so we did not have to go through this next year. |
Thank you Kiwi33, interesting and informative information. I can tolerate the pain during the day, just get up and move around which seems to help, it is night time that is troubling. I can not sleep and the tingling situation, followed by the hot sensation, then the shooting pain in both my feet and hands begins moments after getting in bed. I am sure my physician will increase the dosage of Tegretol (Carbamazepine), which I am praying helps and I have received several suggestions to avoid the constipation issue.
Thanks again, please join my in prayer that this virus situation is brought under control and the many researchers develop a vaccine in a timely manner so we do not have to go through this next year. |
Dallas: I've been thru a lot since 2010 and hip replacement mess...a true ton of complications. I've also developed a sleep combo and I have it posted here in the Sleep Apnea forum.....I sleep a pretty good almost 10 yrs nightly but I do take 1 ibuprofen/1 tylenol every 6 hrs and make sure I have food in my stomach for this. This keeps me sane and living and even laughing.
I work to keep my immune system STRONG and not a fan of vaccines ... have not had one in probably 30 yrs or more.....mandatory to go to first grade and I even question those, little children being forced and they all have good systems when born. |
