When is it safe to taper off valium after concussion?

Im on a low dose of valium and I want to taper off - but I dont want to do anything that would effect me - brainwise. Its been 2 months since my concussion.

I know you might say "speak to your dr." Well, I went to a Concussion specialist in NYC and he wanted to up the benzos. That, in my opinion, would be a bad idea.

So Im thinking on starting a slooow taper. Or should I wait a month or 2. Any thoughts?

Hi stevegee
You were given some responses when you asked about the valium tapering before:

New concussion - been tapering off valium

stevegee,

You are in charge of your life.

Tapering will not cause damage due to your impact 2 months ago. The neuro was likely recognizing your anxiety and ignorantly wanting to treat it.

Do you have access to a neuropsychiatrist who can help you with this next step?

As I said before, I had a psychiatrist who helped me wean off after 14 years of a strong dose SSRI.

Search for that special doctor who agrees with your goal to get off benzos and put yourself in his/her care. Don't argue. Trust the process and accept the help.

Nobody can make these decisions for you. Find that help and make your decision to move forward.

Have you ever started and sustained supplementing with 5-HTP and maybe L-Theanine? My doctor is a big believer in the protocol.

Thanks for your response Mark. Good to know that tapering will not cause any harm.

I am currently seeing a therapist - not the nureopsychiatrist you mentioned. But I think he will have to do. My luck in finding doctors not that great.

The challenge you face is a therapist cannot address pharmaceuticals, either tapering off or other issues. That was my point of a neuropsychiatrist. If your therapist is helping with your anxiety, that is great. Stick with it.
