Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve had chemotherapy induced PN for about 7 years. I’m cancer free for 10 years so PN is my Chief health issue. It’s gotten worse during the pandemic due to inactivity. I’m a 58 year old guy, otherwise relatively healthy. I’ve been an athlete most of my life which helped me recover from cancer so I’m still strong but I’ve lost balance and my aerobic function is way down from inactivity. I struggle to walk more than 2 blocks these days and also have depression due to this. I’m getting help for the depression but have found it difficult to get support for the neuropathy. I want to know how everyone copes with this, strategies for dealing with it and would like to ,she friends too. Thanks in advance for whatever support is here. I do appreciate it as if felt very alone with this condition.

Hey Marc,

Welcome to the forum. I recently came across a guy that had chemotherapy and described a loss of mobility to the extent that his "legs did not work due to nerve damage" He went through several sessions of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and he pretty much fully recovered at least in terms of my perception of his mobility. Have you any experience of an Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber?

Welcome again,

Atty.

Hi Atty,
No I haven’t tried or heard about Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment for neuropathy. I’m not sure that would work as the chemo was 10 years ago and the neuropathy was subsequent to that. Plus my health insurance and finance situation isn’t great right now. Really, I’m just trying to get back on my feet as bd just looking for ways to live with the neuropathy so I can work full time and be a sort of normal person again. I’m really looking for diet tips, exercise suggestions, if PT is effective, do supplements really work, medications that are effective, all day to day living with neuropathy tips. Hopefully then, I can get back on my feet and fight this thing. Thanks so much for your help and concern.

Hi, Marc, and welcome!

Although I don't know about your particular type of neuropathy, I have had a lot of PT sessions over the years for a number of different problems, sciatica being the most common.

It has always helped. I find doing the routines to be tiresome but I did follow the PT's instructions, and I think it paid off in the form of pain relief and more mobility.

Hi Marc, I have a friend who has dealt with neuropathy for decades from statin drugs and also a lot of radiation done on her legs due to cancers. She has done all the drugs and when she finally went with Grape Seed Extract probably a good 10 yrs ago she is very improved. She will be 90 soon.

Personally I have been taking Grape Seed Extract for over 25 yrs and the neuropathy I deal with is from hip replacement 10 yrs ago and the complications left from it.

I also use Inosine and have talked about it here too for Neuropathy. There is a lot of good info in the PN forum area. There is help and maybe a foot support could help you too. I use one on my left foot/ankle. But I do deal with OA issues.

I rub my feet every night with Tiger Balm and some times add some dabs of Vicks on that, and then the socks and then to sleep. By the way I'm 82. Try the above, you may be glad you did. C
