At&T changes, you must add the area codes to local numbers now.

I just got notice from at&t that we are going to be required to enter in our area codes for local calls. I just checked all of my contacts in my phone and all but one had the area code in my phone list, so I added it.
so go thru your contact lists and make sure your local phones have their area codes with the local numbers. If not then just edit them and add the local area codes.

Oh we did that in CA many yrs ago, it was an adjustment, but we did it...plus we need to add a 1 before each area code.

Okay, I'm lost I have to add the area code to my cell phone yes.

But why would I add a 1, and get charged for long distance. Thats
what it stands for here. Cell phones shouldn't be adding a charge
for long distance.

Check your cell phone bill to be sure. With our Consumer Cellular service we pay $75 /mo. for unlimited voice calls, unlimited text & data for two phones.

For the last 11 years I've lived in a town where you always have to dial the area code plus the number of the person you're calling. You put a 1 before all of that only if you're calling long distance.

The added 3 numbers are a nuisance but having frequently called numbers on automatic dial is a help.
