Mother: Our First and Last Teacher in our Life (as a rule)

I have this type post going on one of my other forums and it's caught on nicely..many posting stories about mom and they turn out to be a Tribute.

Talking about this subject on another group and thought I'd post here and maybe some want to share positive and negative feelings about their mother.

As I see it and this has been true in my Life. My mother was my First and Last Teacher and Protector.

She taught me so much and I'm so grateful for her....she was NOT a great book person but a smart/wise woman. A little too much religion in my early years but she didn't know anything else....It took me years on my own to shrug a lot of that "stuff"..

I learned how to cook, sew buttons, do a hem and I know she had a huge caring for her 3 children.

On her death bed at 91, she was hanging on as she didn't want to "leave her children"....and I was there with her, and said "mom it's OK to go, and jesus said it's OK too, with those words, she went. Bless her and I think of her so much She would be 113 today if she was still here....if there is a heaven, I know she's there.

I believe there are far more GOOD Moms than NOT Good ones......

Mom tried to teach me about some things that I didn't "hear" and now regret NOT listening to her...she knew.....

I'm preparing a message to my daughter to this effect, I know her children are her world.....and she is their major teacher and she needs to be reminded of this......

I have a couple gf's who never had a child and they have NO CLUE what it's like being a mother...no way. These gals are very good friends but will never be able to come from where I do, having a child and grandkids.

Guys, Talk about Mom.

I'm the only one to talk about their mother???.

In the year 2000, I knocked on a stranger's door. I had been waiting to do this since childhood when I saw a film with the actor, who played John Boy Walton, do the same.

That stranger was my birth mother. I had no memory of her. I had tracked her down by various means. She lived in abject poverty in the roughest part of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Her TV was coin metered. I didn't even know that was possible.

She told me an extraordinary back story of heartache and tragedy and lies and how I was cruelly taken from her. In reality I was a (repeat, left) "home alone" baby and I was taken into care. It had made the local newspapers. She made no attempt to take me back.

I met her a few times in 2000 and discovered new brothers and sisters, but unlike John Boy, it was not a happy ending and we have not been in touch since.

Later I wrote a monologue about my experience, in the style of Alan Bennett's Talking Heads, but from her perspective. It was performed several times by a semi professional actress, as part of an evening of Am Dram Monologues. One night she couldn't perform it due to illness, So I went on stage and read from the script myself.

At the end of the theatre run, at the after performance party, I was presented with a statuette, for Best Supporting Actress!

Atticus, quite a story, thank you for sharing. Now just maybe others many talk about their mothers too.

Your story is really touching! [emoji3590]

Also, my mother and my grandmother is in fact the only people I've had around me growing up, so I know their importance for a fact.

My mother was very important in my life--and still is, even though she died in 1984. She gave birth to 4 children, and towards the end of her life she said she considered herself very lucky with all of us.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO EVERYONE HERE--and if you're not a mother, you at least have had a mother!

In our family every day is mother's day. We maybe did a couple mother's day breakfasts out but stopped it all.
