Metformin's role in causing or exacerbating neuropathy?

Aside from lowering vitamin B12 levels and blocking the thiamine transporter, can metformin cause, contribute to, or exacerbate neuropathy via any other mechanism?

Have any of you all (either prediabetic or with diabetes) taken metformin following your SFN diagnosis? Did it exacerbate your neuropathy symptoms (assuming your B12 levels were adequate and sufficient Thiamine intake)?

B12 issue is a very important vitamin for nerve health. I believe EVERY drug I have been on for many years have contributed to the full body nerve damage condition. The doctors don't know or care about the issue these drugs are causing. They seem to only test when a deficiency occurs, by then probably too late. The doctors don't recommend vitamins because they are not FDA approved and there is no quality control. So if you get worse, then you get worse, then they say just diabetic nerve pain. It is not about health, it is about wealth, in my opinion. Also, I feel they think I am stupid.

I'm so sorry that you're dealing with all of that. That sounds really difficult.

Low - B12. B3. B6. COQ10. D. Alcohol, a little.

I am not trying to say it is everybody's fault but mine. I was overweight too long when younger. I do think the doctors did make mistakes. They find it very easy to dismiss my knowledge and say the drugs did not cause my health problems.
I really think in my case there are multiple causes. The issues is not what caused it, but what to do now. I have tried just about everything and ditching some meds may be my next option.

I understand how hard it all can be. It's so tough to pin down a particular cause because of so many interacting components. I feally do feel for you.
