June Post

Everyone:

From my fall last month, Today is 6 weeks. I fell getting out of the car.
It was catching my foot on my purse, didn't feel anything with my hip
till the next day. But Progressively, by the next Monday went to ER,
and the xray showed no fracture. But I was in lots of pain, and by THursday
I had called my primary care doctor he called in Two meds, which I'm
still on, Methocarbamol 500 mg tablet, the Ortho represcribed it. And
Meloxicam 7.5 mg. Same on this ortho represcribed it. When I got
an appointment thanks to primary. Also had PT started.

I went to Ortho, was in so much pain, they re-xrayed the Hip, still no fracture,
did xray of back, saw nothing. But ortho said, I needed a MRI, of back and
spine because of the pain, so he ordered on. Had it a week later. Which
was week 4. Was in so much pain, it took 3 people to get me out of the car.
I got inside, and was in my wheelchair, and couldn't sit there. So they let
me lay down. And I did the MRI, I got the results that thursday finally
sent to my primary, even though I'm pretty sure the ortho had them on
TUesday afternoon, but their office said, they got them on Friday.
Anyway that was Memorial Day weekend. They primary was putting in
a referral for a Spine ortho, which would also have to be a different office.

I finally got a referral for The spine Center yesterday, ITs for next Monday.

Which will be the start of the 7th week.

I'm so glad its finally coming through. I am missing summer games this
year. But my husband Dale is taking derrick, and that is something Derrick
has always wanted.

I have help coming in for me. So I will be okay.

Please pray I can get more relief on Monday. I am a little better but the
pain keeps returning more and more.

Donna

Sorry you're still in so much pain. It's taken so long. You must be exhausted from it all. I honestly feel for you. Here's hoping at least on Monday that you'll have some clue about what's happened and go forward with fixing the problem and in the meantime getting some relief from pain. I'm glad you posted an update.

Dear donna,
I am sorry that you are in such pain. I really feel for you!
my dad has been having severe back pains related to spinal stenosis.
he is on a walker now. very humbling for him.he is always used to being the strong man of the family.
he has a skin cancer on his back that he was not a candidate for surgery so they are using an ointment on his cancer spot twice daily for 6 weeks.
should get rid of it.
sigh
both my parents have issues.

Honestly I've been better this week than in probably 3 weeks. But that
says very little. But that is saying something for helping Derrick.

I have been able to change my own depends and get a new one on.
And then he has to change the bed. But that is still lots better.
I can get up with help and use a walker that has wheels. But it takes
a lot out of me still. But its much better. Before it took me ten minutes
it seemed like to just get up to get to using the walker. So its much
better.

Today just after Derrick had changed my trash bag and towels on the
bed. My bed fell I guess in a register whole that is right by the bed.
We had no clue what had happened. But I was able to get myself up
and yell for Derrick to come see what had happened to the bed. I called
my husband Dale who was coming with Dan he is stayign with me while they
go to Special olympian weekend in Terre Haute. So they came in a couple
of hours and put the bed back together. And did a couple of things
and went to get me a few candy bars for my caffeine fix.

I'm not drinking pop so I need something else now. So they will leave in
a few minutes it starts tomorrow. I'm looking forward to hearing how it
goes.

But I'm looking forward to Monday and my appointment too.

oh donna good luck monday. my dad is getting a stimulator for his pain in his spine.

Dmom3005 06-15-2023 06:14 PM

Okay I got some answers after 7 weeks. I will tell you if you find you
think you might have spine and back problems don't let the
Emergency room do just x-rays because they can't find the problems
i have.

I have a fractured Spondylolisthesis, that is hopefully starting to heal.
I am getting after insurance finally clears it hopefully next Monday
an epidural cortisone shot. And then I will have 3 to 4 weeks of
physical therapy and go back to spine doctor in 8 weeks.
Then hopefully it will have healed and I wont need surgery.

It's a wonder you were able to get anywhere with it fractured like that for that long. So painful.

I'm sorry if you've mentioned it recently and I've forgotten, but do you have osteoporosis, Donna? I'm due for a DXA scan (BMD - bone mineral density scan) because I have some calcium/vitD issues. They only take a few minutes and where I live they're free to the patient which is amazing really.

Hopefully it heals well and you need no surgery. Reminds us all just how dangerous falls can be and the dangers of falls and preventing them are not talked about enough in all sorts of conditions.

take care Donna and have a restful weekend.

Dmom3005 06-17-2023 11:34 AM

Yes, I have it. I had osterpenio first now I have had the full blown one
that I can't spell for a few years. I get the scans every few years.

Donna,

PS. I'm hoping to get this corrected without the surgery, my husband
doesn't realize it could take a year to get back to normal after the
surgery and I'd rather tell him after its healed otherwise.

Dmom3005 06-23-2023 02:19 PM

I messed up royally. But its okay. I'm allowed to once in a while. Just
wish it hadn't been with my Physical therapy. But I'm waiting till
they figure out what to do. See when it was supposed to be a hip
problem, I still had 11 visits. But the pain was so bad. they chose
to release me, because they knew it wasn't the hip, and I had proof
I would be getting referred to a spine doctor and would probably
be getting a referral for spine pt. So they didn't want to do more
damage by doing the wrong pt. So they chose to wait. So I didn't
realize I was to take the paperwork to them. Ive always had it faxed
or something over to them. But this office doesn't seem to do that.

I also had to figure out to late that the Pain doctor that i had to cancel
today doesnt call you even though I was told they do. Because my new
pain doctor didn't want two doctors doing things on me. Even though
I had been told it was okay. Ugh, so now I have no clue how long
I'm going to have to wait. Because he wants a emg first because he
wants to know exactly where the shot needs to go. And i'm guessing
if I need more than one area of cortisone meds. But i needed the
part for what was ordered for the doctor before August. So this
is just a mess.

So I'm lost as to what to do. Because they couldn't get me in till July
20th. Ugh.

That is a long time to wait.
I understand PT wanting to wait ans see what your new doctor says.
Perhaps you could ask to be put on a waiting list to be seen sooner.
sorry you are in pain>
