Possible new concussion — or neck injury?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been in a great place these last few years with my health after two concussions (one four years ago, one six years ago) and a whiplash injury. This sub helped me find treatment for my post-concussion anxiety and neck injuries.

Yesterday, I was walking across the street (safely!) when a biker slammed on his breaks too late and the biker’s elbow collided mainly with my nose. I now have a nose fracture and significant neck pain today, and my doctor says I may have a mild concussion. I’m prepared to treat the concussion, though having another one really wouldn’t be ideal. But I am wondering — is there any chance I have no concussion? I’d like to have a bit of hope.

So far, my symptoms could be neck related — dizziness, disorientation, headache.

I know there’s no way to be sure and I should treat the symptoms as they appear, but I’d like to know that my brain’s long term health might be a little safer.

Thanks to everyone who adds words of support on posts like this!

Nobody can project your brain's reaction to this event.

I seriously doubt an elbow to the nose would cause a concussion. The energy absorbed as your nose deformed and broke reduces the impact to your brain.

A bit of whiplash that requires 1/20th of the impact force of a concussion would be expected.

The startle trauma can also cause many of your symptoms.

Treat your symptoms and try to not look for more symptoms.
