Newbie Damo72

Hi all
I don't really know what I'm doing but here's my story
Drinking at some level for 40 years ish (51 years old)
I've had neuropathy before but it had always gone away with a few weeks or months abstinence.
Took me a long time to admit I can't control alcohol.
On my last relapse I changed what and the way I drank.
From regular beer to black cans 9% for about 10 weeks.
9 weeks sober now but it's worse and going nowhere.
On Gabapentin for pain washing it down with fear ATM.
My strength seems ok and generally fit
Has anybody any advice.
To be honest just writing this has helped.
Thanks Damo72

Welcome, Damo72!

If I read your post correctly, you must have been drinking since the age of about 11? People do stop drinking, even binge drinkers and drinkers who have had a problem for decades. It can be done.

I've known a few alcoholics and have a bit of knowledge of AA. AA is still in operation and works for many people--though I've known a few people who just dislike its approach. You do have to admit that you're an alcoholic --and that you will always be an alcoholic. Your body simply can't tolerate alcohol, and it's a condition you need to accept--but it sounds as if you're on your way to recovery and doing well at it.

You're to be congratulated. It's a very tough battle. You'll have a healthier life without the drinking. That's worth a lot.:)
