I'll just jump right into it.

Hey everyone, first post. 65 year old male here. My name is Mike.
So I have all of the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy.
It started with numbness in my toes and slowly worked its way through my feet. Fast forward 6 months. Feet are numb. My arches hurt, brutal burning legs, pain and and twitching in calves and thighs. My GP has me on Gabipentin. I take 1400 mgs right now. Gabipentin has worked well as far as eliminating alot of the pain. At least now I can sleep though the night. I will be undergoing testing in the coming months. I'm very anxious and depressed.

My question to anyone who actually knows the answer.

(Does anyone know what the life expectancy is of someone with severe PN. )

Also blood test have ruled out diabetes. I haven't had a drink in 30 years. Never had a issue with alcohol.

Really happy to have found this forum. I hope to give and get support to others with this horrendous condition.

Thanks for reading this.

Mike

Thank you Jomar, I've read that and a half dozen just like it.
I've pretty much scoured the internet and I find the same answers in these articles.
I was hoping to come here and find someone who has actually gone through what I'm going through. I have been lurking here for awhile. There are only two others that I have found to have the same problems as myself.
I will be here to answer questions and update information on myself.

Hi, Dude3777, and welcome!

Looks as if this study showed that someone with peripheral neuropathy would have a life expectancy of about 4 years less than someone without PN.

Peripheral Neuropathy in Older People Is Associated with Reduced Life Expectancy - PubMed

It is possible to dwell on grimmer statistics unnecessarily though. Statistics don't tell the whole story.

If you've been living sensibly, and it sounds as if you have been, you can beat the odds.

Thanks agate

My heart almost stopped when I read life expectancy 4 years. Thank God I continue reading. Lol. I'm realizing that dwelling on this does not do me any good.
I have excepted that I have this condition and i'm trying to be more upbeat and positive now. One thing that has made a big difference is the gabapentin it has worked well in diminishing the pain in my feet, legs,
hands, forearms. I will be under going more test starting in a couple weeks in hopes of finding the root cause. If I don't find the root cause, I will suck it up and carry on. I just retired and have many things I have planned to do in the future.

Thank you again agate for your wisdom.
