Pins and Needles: nearly constant pain in lower legs and feet
I'm a 69-year old guy and was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 4 years ago. I had always been in excellent health prior to that diagnosis, doctors always told me i was in great shape mentally and physically so of course the PD diagnosis was a shocker for me. For the first 3 years or so, I seemed to do ok with low dose Ropinirole then Carbidopa/Levodopa was added along with Rasagaline. However, over the last 3 or 4 months I have had very painful pins and needles sensations in my lower legs and feet. The pain is so bad, I can't keep my feet still, they are in a constant state of motion slapping back and forth on the floor. My worst moments are when I'm sitting for fairly long periods in a confined setting such as at a formal dinner table with hard table chairs. My main doctor since diagnosis is a very well respected Neurologist that is also director of Movement Disorders in a large Houston hospital. She's tried different dosage and med frequency combinations with the meds I mention above but nothing has helped the pins and needles pain which subsides slightly when in the middle of a med cycle but comes back with big pain near the end of dose cycles. The only thing that usually provides some relief is lying down so I can actually get some decent sleep, thank God. I guess this pins and needles pain is Peripheral Neuropathy? Can anybody confirm this is what it appears to be from the symptoms??
Can anyone out there relate to these symptoms and have you had any luck at all with other meds or treatment types?? I'm a fairly calm person by nature but these last 4 months have been hell and I'm starting to lose hope. Please reply if you can be of ANY help with some of your similar experiences. Maybe I need to try a different doctor for fresh ideas on possible treatments? Thank you all in advance for your interest and responses |
