cure?

Hello Everyone,

Just wondering........do you think there will be a cure for PD within 5 years?? Why and why not?

no.........

we still do not know the cause of PD, we're not sure what happens in the brain to cause the death of the dopamine producing cells.

If a cure was discovered tomorrow, it would take 10 years to get it to market, probably.

I think you will be cured though and your PD iis in such an early stage, I have no doubts that you will be able to have a quality life until that happens.

SO drink gensing tea, eat blueberries and enjoy life!!!

I feel there is a way to heal many things, prayer, peace, what we eat,
do not think of PD 24/ 7
think about life, live -I have never met a doctor who can cure anyone,
but there are healthy lifestyles, and great ways to become healthier...

I believe in God, so in my walk, I am looking for health -peace, tranquility.
if I have to eat a certain way for the rest of my life to be healthy -
I will - my path back to health maybe abit different than yours,
but never ever give up -
also-
B-12 (methylcobalamine) - this will slow down the progression of neurological
illness, sometimes B-12 deficiency is the reason.
the reason we all have different PD is we are all quite individual,
do not over stress yourself -do not multitask, try to find balance -balance
is harder to find, you cant by health -if it could be bought - all the wealthy people would always be healthy... and you know this is not so.
so Maryfind your cure... there is a cure for everything,
we just do not know everything... ;)

as far as the cure as coming from
a pharmaceutical company it is not going to happen -
I have known great men that wanted us to be well, but there are snakes in the grass at big pharmas -for example AMGN
google -amgen -and GDNF or go to the website (paula's grassroots.org)

I prefer to remain cautiously optimistic

a cure will arrive much sooner than later. There are 150 plus research programs working towards a cure for Parkinson's, and a brighter future is establishing around the world as we chew over the possible outcomes, and anyone of those could provide the big breakthrough we are looking for.

Predicting an absolute time zone on how soon a cure willl be found is difficult. We know already growing economies India and China are doing stem cell transplants on patients from around the world. With these programs going on there is the chance things could change dramatically.....and in a nano second.... And we haven't even tapped into the mother of all research programs, Embryonic Stem Cell Research. (Despite the overwhelming support from politicians and the U.S. public for Embryonic Stem Cell Research, the Bush veto against this research hinders the development of this compelling science.)

I agree with Tena & Chas, it is imperative to remain health conscious. My own program consists of 30 minute jog/walks every other day and a 20 minute weight resistance program twice a week. Wheat, sugar, caffienne, and acidic fruits are dileted from my diet. Following the Ginseng program provided on this forum, with a tweak here and there ensures unexpected definitive improvements.... and long may that continue.

sorry double post...

Not encouraged......

:) You pose an interesting question. I am tempted to give you pablum, but thats not honest. Lets face it. Very little progress has been made curing any disease. The money is in treating us and delaying our death. If we are cured or die the gravy train for the health industry dries up. The motivation to cure us I believe is limited.
Actually I am not negative as I sound and I have come to grips a long time ago that all is not always as we would like. I am still feeling ok and coping and will delay any serious medication for as long as possible................ life is good even though it could be better............Hawaii 50

Having been putting entirely too much time into the subject...

...over the last year, and being a cynic besides, I find myself considerably more optimistic than I would have thought a year ago. t isn't anything specific, but it is like a giant coming out from his slumber or something. Stirrings in multiple directions as different researchers realize that ldopa's success has been bad for science and that there are many stones needing turned.

A wide range of possibilities including exercise, nicotine, stem cells, gene therapy, stress management, control of inflammation, recognition of the fact that there are dozens of neurotransmitters, light therapy, electromagnetics, and half-a-dozen more that I forget right now. All have moved from fringe to center stage and are showing signs of working.

So, instead of trying to push the truck down a narrow country lane, the road has suddenly taken on the nature of a multi-lane highway. It kind of feels like it must in the Yukon as the first sound of the spring ice breakup was heard - almost disbelief but not quite.

I don't mean to be a prima dona but hope is essential.:D

Spoken like a true pablumian five oh:D No one in the beginning of the last century could have imagined any aspect of the computer age, genetic engineering, super conductivity, fusion energy, or nanotechnology. Indeed, everyone was many layers of new knowledge away from concepts needed to gain even a hint of the limitless bodies of radically new knowledge being created today. Therefore, I don't share your stagnant view that the motivation for a cure is limited...In fact, infinite knowledge upon knowledge will always be generated forever into the future. And there is enough research going on around the planet to suggest a cure for many debilitating diseases, including Parkinson's will be found. The question remains when will that occur not if.:)
