TOS spreading to the feet?
I know this has come up with many of us...tingling and numbness in the feet with TOS.
Dr Jordan gave me some insight to this today, as I was talking to him about how sometimes when i am driving i can't keep my foot on the gas pedal (feels exactly like when i can't keep my hand on the mouse with TOS) and i get the occaisional numbness in lest two toes- He said the foot symptoms are caused specifically by piriformis syndrome, NOT TOS...BUT that since it is a similar phenomenon (tight muscle=nerve entrapment) that those who develop TOS and are susceptibel to tight/spasmed muscles often develop this similar condition.... SO, I think that means, TOS is not in the feet, but it is just more nerve entrapemtn and whatever predisposed us to TOS (especially a soft tissue, muscle clenching problem) also can predispose us to Piriformis syndrome... I personally think it must all go back to posture...bc if your posture is bad you are prone to clenching in both sets of muscles... just a thought. arms hurt - must go now johanna |
JohannaThat was very interesting. I have never heard of that, but, in our conditions, half of what I hear I have never heard of. We are just a strange breed. I have too many foot issues and don't need anymore! I'll keep my fingers crossed on this one but thanks for the information.

And probably too when we're in pain or even just discomfort - we tend to brace ourselves subconsciously.
I think the whole body fascia thing comes into play too, like Sharon Butler explains in her book. My generic theory LOL:) Muscles get tight or spasmed from the loss of blood flow and /or messed up nerve signals and that causes loss of the fluids, circulation, oxygen and cell nutrition. Those conditions sets it up for the next muscles to join in and so on with neighboring muscles trying to brace the injured ones. What ever affects the muscles that way I'm sure will affect the fascia too and it just spreads- not actual TOS per se but the similar fascia sx. I done sprained my brain trying to get that to make sense LOL must be time for mid afternoon coffee:eek: I think much of it does come down to postures/alignment, at least for myself, I can tell when I have been lax on those self care things and need to get serious about it again. |
