Hello!

I just stumbled on this great forum, and wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I live in Northern California, in the bay area near SF, and together with my fiancee, have 4 children, ages 9-13. My younger son who is 10, was born with a rare pancreatic dysfunction which left him moderately brain injured and in a coma at 3 days old. After a lot of medical treatment, he ended up with a 97% subtotal pancreatectomy and the issue of low blood sugar which left him brain injured and with seizures, was temporarily resolved. Since then, we underwent 5 intense years, visiting The Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential in PA every 6 months through a vigorous 13 hour a day stimulation program to help with mobility, nutrition, respiration, intellectual stimulation and more. It was amazing that after several traditional doctors said he'd never walk, to have him actually up and running by the time he was 4. He still has a long ways to go, and we've temporarily stopped the Institute's Program due to divorce, and he's now in the regular school district. I'm constantly on the lookout for new ways to help his development in alternative venues as the neurologist just wants to pump him up with antiseizure medication. I also keep my eyes and ears open to what's going on with stem cell research, although I realize that this is a long way from possible implementation with brain injury. I even started a business to explore what can be healed in the subconscience mind through various hypnotherapy and nlp techniques. Anyway, that's been my path so far, and I appreciate any advice or tips that may come from this forum.

Welcome to the forums.

Not sure which one of the forums you would benefit from the most.

But please stop by and introduce yourself in child health for one.

And anywhere else you think it would be good to get to know people.
