hi, could you give me a little assist?...have a numb foot,ie to superficial sensation, temp sens seems to be grossly intact and palpation is for the most part felt....lateral leg down across foot , excludng grt toe(for the most part) and little toe, (again, for the most part)crosses over the ankle to include the medial aspect....the plantar surface up to the ball of the foot seems ok...chiro is thinking trigger point in lateral leg, between tib/fib....have similar but much lesser, on the other leg....(allopathic doc is thinking systemic, and we dont want to go there!)anyway, i was hoping you could give me some assistance in finding the "right" spot..........also, potentially had local trauma to common fibular nerve.....but that pre dated by at least 2 weeks the onset of numbness....which started as a feeling of spasms in back of thigh and calf, chiro and massage took care of the pain, pressure on the back of the thigh still is uncomfortable.........thanks in advance

Pabb- To get an idea of where on your legs this is happening, take a hair brush, and move it gently over your legs to determine where the sensation is different. By using something other than your hand, you eliminate tactile feeback that you get when using your hand.

Once you have an idea where things are different, do a search on "Dermatome map" and it will show you where on your skin the different lumbar levels (L1, L2, etc.) are tied to those areas.

The following step might be to have your doc request an EMG or Nerve conduction study to find out which nerves are affected.

Good luck.

Hi,
the Peronial nerve which impacts the area you describe can be restricted by the Peroneus Longus and Extensor Digitorum longus muscles which cause remote trigger points in the Peroneus brevis, Peroneus Teritus, Extensor digitorum longus, Extensor Hallis Brevis and Extensor Digitorum Brevis.

Therefore, these muscles need treated via direct pressure in the shortened position and then stretched via sitting in a chair or standing by placing the foot in plantar flection (toes tucked under) and roll heel outward and then inward, you can push the bottom of the heel with you hand in a seated position..

Look at these trigger points at:

Hope this helps.
