Sleep problems with PCS.

Since having PCS I have had massive sleep problems. It comes in waves.
I tend to not be able to fall asleep, despite having medication in order to help me. More often or not, this will last about a week, then I sleep out of pure exhaustion. I find that my mind is active and racing with thoughts. I'm on high alert... it's a funny state of mind to be in because it's not brought about by any particular event.

Does anyone else with PCS have this problem? If so, how are you combating it?

I've started relaxing more at night, which helps. I also use ear-plugs and try to avoid TV late at night. It all helps but I still have to take tablets and I'm still kept up.

Sometimes, I sleep for just 6 hours and then I wake up, wide awake.. although I know that 6 hours is not enough sleep. It's very strange, very annoying and highly unpredictable.

I find that when I've had a GREAT night's sleep (without remembering my dreams), that I feel physically and mentally better the next day.. ie. I feel almost like the PCS has gone. This has happened about 3 times in 2.5 years!!

Would love to hear opinions and thoughts on this.

Thanks. :)

sleep

I also have problems w/ Sleeping at Nite. I've tried meds -Ambien, Lunesta and various "sedative" herbs, Melatonin, and more.... none have helped. I was dx'd w/ PCS after TBi 8 mths ago. But I had TBI & other injuries when I was hit by car 12 yrs ago. That's actually when most of my problems began, but since last TBi exacerbation of all, esp. Sleep issues.

I don't know if i can "blame" PCS for my sleep problems. Seems pain & spasms are the culprits. I take meds for these (which don't help much)and am very tired during day, will fall asleep if sitting, wathcing Tv, etc. but when go to bed at nite, can't sleep. I'm in a vicious cycle of fatigue, sleep debt & related issues--irritable, jumpy, hypersenstive...
My mind also races w/ thoughts.

I'm trying to engage in more relaxation --exercises like focused breathing, visualization, meditation. also tried "tapping" --an interesting technique that's helped many w/ various issues but I have problems remembering the seqeunces of what, how its done. (this is affect of TBi/PCs) I'm going to get some videos (yoga, meditation, etc ) so I can follow the leader and hope for benefits...

I'm still going to DRs and trying other meds. Also looking into some alternative non drug therapys.... and continue researching my conditions.

wish I could tell you something that works, but at this time, I don't know what it is... yet...

wish you the Best in your process of healing and recovery and hope you 'll find ways to get that restorative needed Sleep.
