Aracnoid cyst

hi My name is mandy. My son George was diagnosed with a Left frontal-temporal arachnoid cyst in 1999 when he was just 6 months old. He had an endoscopic fenestration in 2000 when he was nine months. His cyst was very large and caused a mid line shift of his brain. Although the operation was succesful his cyst remains 6cm in diameter. He has been mainly symptom free, he gets headaches and his short term memory is poor but other than this he leads a normal life. Recently he has started to have seizures and he drools considerably which worries me but his surgeon feels further intervention is unnecessary . Reading your articles brought back memories of how frustrating and worrying it can be when you have this condition. I hope you all receive the treatment you deserve.

Hi, Mandy, welcome to NeuroTalk!

Oh, your poor little dude, is he okay? How is his prognisis?

LIZARD 09-09-2007 01:18 PM

((((((((((((Mandy))))))))))))))).

Please get another opinion! Has George ever had a shunt? If he has started to have seizures, he needs help!! That nsg is an idiot! George should have a CT or MRI and followup with a nsg who knows what he's talking about.

:hug::hug::hug: Good luck!

LIZARD :)

Hi Mandy and welcome to Neurotalk

I know a bit about Arachnoid Cysts, as I have one. But mine was in a different area (posterior fossa). I had a cyst fenestration that was, so far, successful. I guess I was lucky, but I know many people can't get the treatment they need. Obviously your son's cyst has presented with different symptoms to mine. But the recent symptoms he's having, do need more investigating. I just hope he can continue to get the right treatment he needs.

Hi ((Mandy)). You've found a very supportive and caring community.

I'm so sorry about your son's condition. I agree with Lizard that you should seek the opinion of a different neurosurgeon for sure.

Hi,
I see that you have been on this site for a while. Can you tell me if you have read if anyone has ever written about a thorasic aracnoind cyst?
I have one and had 2 shunts put in. To do this they had to break off a wing on 5 of my vertibrae, cut some muscles and nerves off my spine. needless to say the aftermath of surgery was and is still onging after 8 years

Hi Mandy and welcome to NeuroTalk!

So sorry to hear about what your son has been through. I hate to hear of anyone suffering with a medical condition but it always seems harder for me to hear about a little baby having to go through this stuff. Just doesn't seem fair.

As you can see there are a lot of people here eager to help you with suggestions and advice. I'm so glad you found NT and hope you get the help you're seeking.

arachnoid cyst,

9 months ago i suffered a very dramatic dizzy spell that lated 4 days, i couldnt eat or walk during this time, and it took me a further 3 weeks to b able to walk in a straight line, the docs kept saying i had virtigo, but i didnt believe that and kept going to my gp, till he agreed to an mri scan, where they found a large posterior fossa, the specialist said my symptoms have nothing to do with my cyst, i DISAGREE, my symptoms are, a massive 24 hour weird feeling, my balance is not great, and im starting to feel paranoia, and my vision is going down hill, the specialist said he was not going to give me treatment, can i chalange this???? i feel very strongly that my cyst is a problem, x
