mother with aneurysm

My mom had a subarachnoid hemmorhage on March 14, 2006 due to a ruptured aneurysm of the interior carotid artery. I posted at the original forums during the critical time in the hospital and during her recovery.

Her recovery has been nothing short of miraculous, but she's at a place where she is ready to have some support from other survivors. As much research as I've done in helping her understand what those weeks were like, I think she'd benefit much more from talking it over with people who actually HAVE experienced what she has.

She had a mini-stroke (transient ischemic attack) at the end of August that has set her recovery back some, but I think it was for the best as it forced her to slow down and realize that she needs to take time to let her brain and body recover. Her annie was large, bordering on giant, and her docs are at a loss as to why she survived, much less as to why she's recovered so well.

So anyway, I'm rambling. The other place has been down as you know, so I haven't had any place to refer her. Hope you don't mind if I pass her on to you guys and your capable hands :)

Hi Ashley

Send your mum to either Braintalk 1 or Braintalk 2 - she will get lots of support from either (or both). Some of us (like me) did not have a rupture, but most of us have had clipping or coiling surgery or are VERY close to someone who has.

Because we have been there, we know how important it is to go a little slowly and let the brain heal (which takes a long time). We can probably also allay some of her fears about recurrence, what is normal etc.

Thank you for posting on her behalf, and I look forward to meeting her.

Cheers

Lyn

PS if you need any help, need any info or just need someone to lean on, please feel free to post again - that's the whole idea of this place.
