Anti Nausea medicines... a question

Could you please tell me about the ones you have been on, and which helped the most?

I am on Compazine now, but my neurologist is switching it soon...

Re the anti-emetics:
I reckon the CRPS pain can cause nausea but the other meds we use can too. Opioids have a reputation for this but this is dependent on type of opioid and dose and if your dose has been titrated upwards slowly.

I use prochloperazine (Stemetil in Australia) either as a tab or orally but this can cause spasticity (like Monty Pythons' department of silly walks but less extreme) if you take a tab / suppository and then have to get an injection. Make sure you tell your doc. I have no side effects.

I also take Maxalon as it is known in Australia (Metoclopramide HCl) orally. No ill effects. Generally 10 mg works well if you aren't @ the vomiting stage (obviously).

Have you tried Zofran (ondansatron). This worked way better then the compazine!!!

I use Meclazine. You can get it over the counter altho you have to ask the pharmacist for it as it is kept behind the counter. 12.5 mgs is what I use. In CA it costs about $8 for 100 tablets. It can also be gotten from a doctor in a script also.

Best thing for my nausia is Naboline. I read a study done with naboline to treat chronic pain and nausia I will try hunt it down.

Hi. Just a caution to watch out for side effects with all meds.
Prochloperazine (Stemetil in Australia) can cause Parkinsonism as a side effect.
I was sent to a Neurologist after stumbling and dribbling and was amazed to find this common anti nausea tablet the cause.

Also it's a good idea not to asume that mesa and/or pain are the cause. Vestibular problems such as vertigo can also cause this. I got RSD after a fall in which I hit my head a number of times. You can get benign positional; vertigo from a head knock (other ways as well). This can cause constant nausea.

Hi IHH :p nice to "see" you again.

Between all the meds for the rsd and the epilepsy, as well as having aids, I know a lot about nausea, lol. (six times last night, a record for me) :eek:

I take Marinol to both help the nausea as well as spur on the appetite I no longer have. It's my fav, as it is synthetic :eek: THC.

I also have used Zofran, which is awesome. But my insurance won't pay for it anymore. :(

I also use Phenergen suppositories... I know it sounds icky, but when you can't keep down the pills, they don't work very well!

There are also some natural remedies that can at least soothe the symptoms, if not cure it. I use Chamomile, Constant Comment, and Lipton's Bavarian Wild Berry tea... but it has caffeine in it, so be careful.

There are also oil of pepper mint, black licorice (yes, seriously! Try a handful of Good & Plenty!) and beer... but of course, you aren't of age, are you? You'd have to ask your Mom. But about 4 oz. of beer (1/3 of a can) will settle down your tummy. MORE would make it worse, don't try it!

I hope you find something that helps, IHH.. it can be very draining (pun intended!) not only physically but emotionally, too. Sometimes I sit in front of the toilet, resting my hot head against the cool lid, afterwards. It helps keep me from getting headaches afterwards, as well as gives me a moment to recover my composure.

I hope you are feeling better although I guess by asking this question it means you aren't:(
I am also a big fan of Zofran. it is unfortunately the only one now that gives some relief. It is quite expensive but it is slowly coming down to a more competitive price.
I am also a big fan of any ginger product, something in ginger ale definitely nips my nausea in the bud occasionally.
