Avatar help

I've tried several times to get an avatar. I have no idea what I'm going wrong. Of course, I also have no idea what I'm doing. I go to edit avatar, upload from computer, try to find a clip on my computer that seems to be smaller than the size limit, tell it to save changes, and it tells me invalid file. Help!!!! Others have an avatar! I want an avatar!
Is there another way to get an avatar other than uploading from computer?

hi loisba...what type of file is it? some seem to work better than others. like jpeg.

you can host it on a site like www.photobucket.com

don't click the custom button and add the url of the picture.

you can resize most of your pictures by using your paint program or microsoft photo editor.

find a picture file or a clip art? and right click on it, it should have a list of options, go to -open with - and see what options pop up.
I had best luck with microsoft photo editor but if you have any other picture or photo program they will work too.

I can help more tomorrow if you need it- or somebody might have an easier way to help you figure it out.

Hello LoisBa ....

A very nice and helpful member of the old forums turned us on to IrfanView, created by a fellow from Switzerland. It is free and easy to quickly download. It makes avatar creation so easy that it is fun.

http://www.irfanview.com/ With this, you can take any picture and turn it into a completely great avatar.

The thing you have to do tho, is reduce it to no more than 80 X 80 pixels in size.

It consists of cropping your picture so you have the part you most want, then sharpening and/or brightening up the image if needed.

You do not need to upload it to anywhere besides BT2. You can only have one avatar at a time to BT2, but you can keep all your other favorites on your own computer. Some people change their avatars regularly, others stick with one or another for longer periods.

Irfanview can be used to edit any kind of picture for any purpose. It is not just for avatars - it just makes avatar creation a snap.

Maybe the file type can't be used. Are we limited to jpg, gif, png, etc.? Can you use bmp? I always use jpg just to be on the safe side.

And that program sounds great, I'll have to look into it, thanks.

Irfanview saves only to gif files - which are perfect for avatars

Thanks so much for all of the help. I also got a PM from a member ofering to help me make an avatar. Surely between all of you I can get one eventually. If I keep having problems, I'll post again.

Thank you, mrsd!!!! As you can see, it worked!!! I'll save the other ones you sent me, and change them after a bit. I'm also going to play around with some of the other neat suggestions that were made, and see if I can do an avatar for myself. :D
