Cryosurgery for Neuropathy??

interesting...
but that last comment about diabetic PN? I don't get that at all...
Killing the nerve for Morton's neuroma is not the same as treating diabetic PN. That might be a media mistake. We don't know if the nerve grows back (like it does with other chemical interventions or not).. I guess only a podiatrist could verify this technique for diabetics here. |
Mrs. D.
You know me, I like to get to the bottom of things. As soon as Alan saw this video, he became all excited and we called his podiatrist. Unfortunately,he does not do cryosurgery. So we did a yahoo search on cryosurgery, podiatrists, Brooklyn, NY, blah blah blah, and we came up with a few people. What impressive websites, and they all do cryosurgery on neuropathy. But none of them take Alan's insurance. So we are investigating further. I mean, think about it. In the video, this woman sat in a chair (with her Morton's Neuroma) and the guy numbed her good, then put a probe in her area and froze the nerve. Now why can't they do this on people who have neuropathy between their toes (like Alan)? I realize that many diabetics have neuropathy all over the place, with the burning, up and down the arms, legs, whatever. But what if a person only has the neuropathy between certain toes, like Alan does. He doesn't have it any other place. Wouldn't it be neat if he could go to a place, sit in a chair, the guy would freeze the nerves between the significant toes that give Alan his problem?? My gosh, if this is possible, we are not going to stop until we have found someone who thinks this is viable. Hey, it worked for the lady in the video. I'll update if I find any more good stuff on this. Melody |
The gal in the video
only had ONE nerve to kill. With Morton's that is the typical situation.
Diabetic Neuropathy however, affects the feet globally, so I don't know it they kill ALL the major nerves or what. Alan's might be due to compression, with that Taylor's bunion. Squeezing the toes together like that would compress the nerves going down inbetween. Cryosurgery kills tissue. So it may not come back. Or like some nerves have a habit of doing, they grow back and hurt more. So I don't know if this procedure is "forever" or temporary. One needs to find out more. |
Hi Mrs. D. (just pm'd you, by the way).
Believe me, I'm going to find out as much as I can about this crysosurgery thing. Will update if I do. Take care, Melody |
We have some news!!!
Been having a devil of a time finding out information about doctors who perform this on the feet.
Well......today, Alan found a doctor affiliated with NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. He does it for Neuromas, and other foot stuff. The doctor was not there but Alan spoke to the girl in the office and he explained exactly what he had going on between his toes and that maybe freezing the nerves would at long last give him some long awaited complete relief. Well, she was very nice and she wrote everything down. The doctor won't be back there until Monday. She promised to ask the doctor if he does cryosurgery on people with Neuropathy. That's the big question. They do it for Morton's Neuromas and heel spurs, etc. So now the plot thickens. Will update if we hear a positive or anything. And they accept his insurance. Melody |
