Doug Called Me!
:D Doug called me today! He told me to sneak in some Propel and water in with me to give to him. He told me to put it under my coat. He said the hospital won't give him anything to drink and he hasn't had anything to drink for over a week. I took his roommate to visit him. Doug looked under the covers and said damn, I don't have on any pants. He was going to go to the nurses station to get something to drink. I of course did not bring him anything. The doctor is going to re-acess him for some reason. Doug puckered up to kiss me but I couldn't because of his staff infection. I am in awe.

Sound like Doug is feeling lots better so the doctor is wanting to see
how the staph infection is doing. maybe they are going to be able to let him have some water now too. No clue have never seen this kind of Staph infection. Donna |
Is he getting IV fluids though right?
We brought in quite a few things to bro in law - hosp said just ask for what ever you need or want { of course I'm sure they charge for extras:(}. He had a craving for watermelon. Plus he wouldn't put in his upper denture so he could regular food chew very well. I wonder why they have restrictions for someone that is terminal? unless the prognosis has changed ? |
Thank you Donna and Jo.
I'm not sure why Doug cannot have any fluids. The only IV he has is for morphine. I know that before my mom passed she got back to her old self again and then suddenly died in her sleep and shocked me. The doc says the only reason why Doug has lived this long is because he's so young. I wouldn't be surprised though if he signed himself out as he's done that from ICU before and he's in a regular room now. He has company now but I'm hoping to talk to him lots more tonight so I need to keep the phone lines open as much as I can. befuddled2 |
I bet that was rather shocking to hear from him.
They should be giving him fluids!!!!! He is asking for them for crying out loud!!!!! anyway you are being a good friend to him and I am sorry that he is on isolation that makes it tough for you both. bizi |

There is more than one reason Doug is hanging in there. He is also hanging in there because he has a group of you that come to see him. And are there for him regularly. But for the most. He is hanging in there because of you. So know that you are doing something good. Keep it up. Donna |
I am glad Doug called BF, I just wish they would give him fluids, he has to be getting something more then just morphine in that IV or well, he won't do well, he deserves the chance to enjoy his last days, why can't the man enjoy a propel or have a soda? I wouldn't deny him a thing...I hope his staph infection goes away soon. :(

BF, Like I said on the phone the fella has more lives then a cat!
I think his will to live and not go yet has a lot to do with his not wanting to leave after having someone that cares about him too. If he were sad and lonely he would have no will. Because of his Aunt, Uncle, dad and brother and you he is staying here a while yet. Did they ever diagx a problem why he could not breath,. I wondered if he had an infection. Man why don't they let him drink...even if a DNR they don;t have to let the thrist to death! LOL, what apicture if he walked out to the nurses station, I know he would not be able to walk right now, but what if he could?LOL di |
I too don't understand why he cannot have any fluids. That's awful.
I don't think water would hurt at all. Let us know what the Dr says...................... Hugs, Nikko |
Doug cannot have fluids because he'll throw it up. He'll be going to a nursing home about 30 miles from here.
