The Canadian Museum of Nature is holding a Café scientifique on October 2 on stem cell research - does the promise outweigh the risk? The discussion will take place at the Fox and Feather Pub. 238 Elgin St., beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Science café looks at stem cell research

The first of the Canadian Museum of Nature's 2007-08 Café scientifique series gets under way Tuesday, October 2 with the topic: Stem cell research - does the promise outweigh the risk?

Curing disease and repairing the body, extending our lives, perhaps indefinitely – with promises like these, could stem cell research be the life-time warranty for our bodies? But at what cost? Join our guest experts, Dr. Ilona Skerjanc, a stem cell researcher at the University of Ottawa, and Nigel Van Loan, Board member of ALS Canada who will talk about the hopes for stem cell research with respect to Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Café scientifique provides a forum where you can explore the latest ideas in science and technology over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

The discussion will take place at the Fox and Feather Pub at 238 Elgin Street, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free but there is a charge for food and drinks. Seating is on a first come basis.

For more information, call 613-566-4791.
