Question About Hardware Removal

Has anyone that has had hardware removal felt pain free immediately? I am so tired of these docs waking you from surgery and then asking how you feel immediately....The recovery room nurse asked me immediately how I felt and wanted my pain levels...They thought I was going to be able to go home immediately after this surgery....

I had surgery on Monday, September 17th...They removed a long screw that went into the iliac...and rod that was attached to it...I awoke to terrible pain down the front of my legs ....That pain is terrible and does not seem to want to go away...The incision is particularily painful as well as the iliac area...I imagine these areas have to heal, but the pain down the front of the legs is new...and awful....The pain in the hips has returned as well...I had good pain management before this surgery. I had gone for two SI injections and the pain levels were under control for the first time in a long time. Now, I am sorry that I allowed this, but realize too that there is healing involved....

I don't think I was ever pain free after surgery. When I had my hardware taken out, I was in three days. Thats the least I have ever been in for anything involving my lumbar. I am still not pain free and don't think I ever will be. Do you wear a brace? I have had to wear one for 16 yrs. I would love not having to wear it in the summer.

Billie,

Thanks for posting an answer to my post....I have never had to wear a brace and often wonder if that is not why I have so much pain. He told me the hardware is my brace....
