Getting the SCS
Wow
What a day. Just found out that I am getting the trial scs on Oct 17th. Also getting the block on Monday. Now I'm rushing to get a phych eval (getting it tonight at 7.00pm), and an ekg. I thought I would have more time to get things going. What a afternoon. right now I'm gonna get ready to go to see the shrink. Have no idea what to expect. I just know I'm soooooo tired. I must get all this stuff taken care of. The trial gets implanted about noon on the 17th. I need to be there by 9;00 am to meet with the ans rep and the team. Fun fun... be back later. sorry i missed this yesterday
the psych evals i have had werent that stressful mostly they are just trying to make sure that you will be able to handle the stress of the process. i think they pretty much expect all of us to say we are depressed (who wouldnt be:D ). one i went to was a real stickler about how i had handled the change in my life menatlly...the whole did you drink, do drugs, try to kill yourself...have you maintained family ties, social bonds. i had him a little concerned and had to have my shrink talk to him (apparently he was concerned because i was so unfazed by the whole thing) of course he never asked me when i was first diagnosed and didnt bother to find out the fact that i was an athlete that managed to get hurt regularly.
the first guy had me fill in like 130 little circles (like the SATs all over again...now that stressed me out). the second psych eval was much better (better doc better shrink...go figure) he basically talked to me for about an hour and a half and had no concerns about me having the trial or the permenant. anyway i hope things went well for you i know the entire process especially when it happens so quickly adds stress and pressure to the proccess. i do have one question what area is your stim going to cover (and which system has your doc chosen) it makes a big difference in comfort after the procedure, the time it takes to heal, and in mho how effecive the stim is |
wakegirl,
The eval was ok. I spoke to him about an hr last nite, and today took the paper test. There were about 700 questions. Talk about being embarrassed. I did the test, (fill in circles) and left and went shopping etc. got home there was a message from the office that I forgot to answer the last 15 on the back of the page. Oh well...I'm getting a ANS system, and it is going to be for my feet and legs. both sides. I'm so excited about getting it. how did you do? how long to heal? how long before you could do anything normal...My best friend in OK called and she is going to come out after the perm on gets put in and help me. Hubby wants to do it all himself. I'll have her come out after about the 2-3rd week. I have horses here and she will help me with them. I don't know how long I'll have to wait to clean the stalls and feed them and all, but I'll follow the docs instructions and do as I'm told. I am going to ride before the trial tho. somehow, I don't think I'll be able to ride after I get it implanted. You can PM me if you like with any advice etc. Mary :grouphug: |
Hi Mary,
My b-i-l has been in pain for 7 years, the last year he was bedbound. He had a SCS put in a month ago for both legs also. He had to wait 2 weeks before they turned it on, paddles had to scar in place He had instand relief. He's been going to the gym and on the treadmill for the past 10 days...even asked to go out to breakfast for the first time in 7 years. His depression lifted right away. I hope yours goes this well !! |
:grouphug:
Good luck with your SCS Mary, I hope you soon have some good news for us all. Cheers Tayla:hug: |
[COLOR="Blue"]Of course, I am sending ya huge((Hugs, Mary))) that everything works out very, very well for ya!! Until then, be careful riding your horses before you get the SCS, I am happy knowing that you have a friend that will be coming to help you out with your beloved horses. I am so excited for you getting the SCS and know you will benefit so much from it, as you will be well on your way to some pain free "ouchies" `Love, Desi
