the best folic acid supplement out there is.....??
what is the best folic acid supplement out there? I mean i bought the source naturals advanced b12 complex which had folic acid(400mg or 100%DV) but the thing has 30 tablets but it is $12, which is very expensive. i mean I think that's more because it has 5 mg methylcobalamin/adenosylcobalamin.

methylfolate was the best...
and it was easily available cheaply from Source Naturals. Then Merck the big drug company who owns the patent, decided to only sell it to other RX drug companies. It is currently in Metanx and Cerefolin. The OTC vitamin companies can no longer buy it. This was not an FDA mandated action.
Methylfolate was what I used to recommend..because no one knows if they have any of the so far recorded folic acid polymorphism errors in metabolism which result in failure to methylate folic acid in the body. It is like the same issue with cyanocobalamin B12 which is not active, and folic acid which needs conversion also to methyl version. Source Naturals is making a subsititute called folinic acid which is a compromise. The Rx name for folinic acid is Leucovorin. But Source Naturals has it in 800mcg strength. I sent them an email a while back and they explained it all to me, that is how I know about it. Unless you think folic acid is failing for you, you don't need to worry about at this time. You can use any you want, really. |
nope i just heard that....
I just heard that folic acid is a type of B-vitamin that should be taken alongwith vitamin b12. and I heard that it is good for you, I mean I already take vitamin b12 so why not take folic acid with it.

It is a good idea to take a B complex, because if by some chance you are low in one of the other Bs it will affect your body's ability to repair even if B12 deficiency is your problem. Inexpensive and safe, so good insurance.

Source Nat - Adv B12 complex
Hi:
Just an FYI -- $12 for 30 tabs is more than I pay for the Source Naturals Advanced B-12 Complex. The last time I bought it (Apr 07), it was 60-tablet bottle and it was about $16.something and it was from ihealthtree.com. I have also purchased it from Amazon and also from iherb.com. It's a little hard to find, but I go for price! I search on-line before I buy it since I think $16-17 is expensive, but it really helps me not get the stabbing neuropathy pain at night in my leg. Since it has folic acid and I take 2 per day, I don't stopped taking a folic acid supplement. Hope this helps at least with the price. Kat |
