Flu Shots and Vitamin D
I thought Mrs. D and maybe some of the others might enjoy reading this article. It was posted on the Sjogren's forum and I just thought I'd share.

I went to an all day CE seminar today...
and part was on Vit D. The lecturer had all the new info.
She said some studies show 90% of older patients very low in D. That is a new figure I hadn't heard. Upper limit is 2000 IU. So don't go over that daily. And D3 is preferred. D2 is 1/2 as potent as D3. She did rose's B12 a good service. In fact in her own job she suggests to the doctors at the nursing homes she services (she is a PhD. nutritionist) that they do MMA testing on all patients. I was impressed. So I gave her a good evaluation on the hand out sheet at the end! |
Hurray!!!! :)

At the risk of looking dumb, what is MMA testing?

Hi Cathie:
It's a B-12 thing. Here's a link that explains the whole thing. http://www.labtestsonline.org/unders...ma/sample.html Melody |
according to my lecture source..
The MMA test is more accurate. It measures the "activity" of B12...not just blood levels. She is requesting it now, in all nursing home patients under her care in Oregon. She says it costs about $40. She also said B12 may show up as good level in the blood, but not be active. The MMA is more accurate to see if B12 is being utilized properly.
