supartz

Hi Guys,
I've recently been diagnosed with arthritis and my dr is wanting to
give me shots of supartz in my knees. I was wondering if anybody here has done this and what were the results...I also have a couple bone spurs and a mesed up ligament as well. I had my first cortisone injection on Thursday, and today the knee pain is back. NOT as bad as it was before, but its back :( I'm taking mobic and as far as i can tell it is doing nothing for my knees, but has been helping my hands now for the past couple months.
I hope everybody is having a good Sunday..
vicky

Can't help you with supartz Goofy...I just wanted to leave you a hug.

Vicky, I'm also not familiar with Supartz.

Do you have OA? I did see that Supartz is used for it.

How long have you been taking the Mobic? I remember when my rheumatologist prescribed it, he said that it could take up to a couple of weeks to feel its (potentially) positive effects. For me, it did take about that long, and it did help with my knees and ankles.

Strange thing, when he'd prescribed Mobic in the past, it did nothing to alleviate anything. And, I've heard from others, also with arthritis, that Mobic helps with some things but not others.

Hi Bobbi,
yup i've got OA. I've been taking mobic now for about 3 months. I just recently had my gall bladder out and had to stop taking it for a little bit, and i could sure tell a difference in my hands... They hurt so bad while i was off of it.. I cant tell that its doing anything for my knees though...
I just had a cortisone shot in my knee on thursday and already its starting to wear off :(.....
I've been researching the use of "hyaluronates". There are others besides supartz. Synvisc seems to be a popular one... I'm undecided about what to do. All i know is i cant do a knee replacement right now. I guess i'll talk to my dr more about this when i go back on the 18 for my next cortisone shot.
hopefully the next one will last a little longer...

Maybe, read as much as you can about options, as you have been doing. As a result, and also speaking with your rheumy., it could help you decide.

I had an appointment with my rheumy. this afternoon. He was pleased to learn that the Mobic has been helping (my knees and ankles) since it did nothing in the past with other pain. He said that it's good to know the Mobic has been working for "extremity pain."

Because the pain has subsided, the Mobic is now to be taken on "as needed" basis.

My dr decided not to give me another cortisone shot and to go ahead with the supartz injections. He said i wouldn't notice a difference until after the third one. At least it didn't hurt like the cortisone shot did. I guess we'll see if there is any improvement in the next 2 weeks...

I had my 4th shot on Thursday. I can tell quite a difference. I have one more shot to go. My dr said this would last 6-9 months...he said i could do the series over again if i chose to do so after 6 months...Its not back to normal 100% but sure is better than what it was....
