Ala
Last night when I went home I noticed a small box on my doorstep. My vitamins from iherb finally arrived. I took Betafentamine & methyl B12 with no problem at all before bed.
This morning I took my....Fishoil,Garlic,Multi-Vit.,B-complex,Methyl B12Betafentamine,C0Q10,and added my new 150mg dose of ALA. I started to feel weird sensations in my head, the only thing that comes close is the Niacin flush feeling. I felt very nervous, alert, and uncomfortable.I was scratching and rubbing my face. One of my feet started to burn a bit as well for no reason. I also noticed darkish urine,as normally my urine is always flourescent green due to Bcomplex. I am wondering if this is normal, has anyone had a similar reaction,or should I just not take them anymore? Thank you |
Who makes that ALA?
I looked it up at Linus Pauling Institute:

At the dose you are taking, there should be little effect. Allergic reactions are always possible 2) ALA can lower blood sugar readings...but typically in high doses. What else is in the capsules? I myself would hesitate to continue with it. |

Mrs. D, this is the link of the ALA I bought. Nothing sinister appears to be in there. Maybe 150mg is too high of a dose for me to start on, I don't know. I almost had to leave work and go home because of the weird feeling in my head. My head still feels weird now.

I don't think it is a high dose...
I don't think it is the dose.
If you want answer, I'd stay off all supplements, and just take the ALA alone one time. Keep some antihistamines handy if you get the itching/flushed feeling. When a person uses alot of stuff, it might cloud the issue regarding side effects. But it is also possible that you are allergic to it. In any event it is not a common occurance. How are the twitching muscles doing? I haven't heard an update on that score. |
Thanks for asking Mrs D
I have been waiting, to really be able to update everyone, and know that it is certain. PN changes from moment to moment and I don't like to get over enthusiastic or confident.
But to be honest, I noticed an immediate abating of the twitching upon stopping the calcium, magnesium,& potassium supplements I was taking. I don't remember if I mentioned the potassium? That was my latest conquest at GNC. I was taking seperate of each, and morning and night doses. In any event, upon your advice, I stopped that day,and within 2 days time the twitching abated by about 30-40%. Funny huh?:o I still have some twitching, and it could be just about anywhere as it seems to travel around, but not nearly as horrible as it was. It may have abated even more. but it was sheer misery for those couple weeks as it was intense and constant. I have been doing some serious stretching of my calf muscles,so I can regain flexibility and strenghth and stay off the calcium & magnesium. If I do go back,I will try the slow mag. In time. Thanks again Mrs. D:hug: |
I see...
I think you were getting too much Calcium and did not balance well with the Mag. Perhaps there is alot of calicum already in your daily diet.
So just try magnesium alone. And a better product than you were using. You don't have to take alot, to get an effect. A female should have 380mg or so a day. So two SlowMags would be about 1/2 of that, and the rest you may get from food if you are lucky. Magnesium helps with tension and anxiety, which you get sometimes. So it may help you here. How high a dose are you taking for the B-complex? Some people get jittery or hyper on too much B-complex. Try taking it every other day (this works for me) and that might help. A rapid response to only one dose of ALA suggests to me an allergic effect rather than the supplement effect. Supplements take time to work as a rule. |
I have had an unuual supplemet regime..
I take the recommended, and I also add in a few o my own too.
I have had good results from just taking Fishoil,Multi Vitamin,& Bcomplex, Garlic & Lechitin (not totally convnced about the lechitin) I added C0q10 for heart flutters which have decreased while on it. And now I also have the Methyl B12 & Bentotiame from America. The ALA have gone back into the cabinet. In my cabinet I have the ALA,Potassium,Calcium, magnesium,Milk Thistle,Chromium, and Folic acid. |
Hi Aussie, a couple of years back i got some of Blackmores Execute strength B complex from Safeway, which were on sale, [ no wonder  ] the next morning i took one and went out the back yard, then not long after i felt like a million ants were crawling all over me:eek::eek, it must have looked funny, i couldn't stop scratching myself from head to toes :D :D, but it was driving me crazy so i come inside and all over my body were little itchy lumps every were, so i must have drank 10 glasses of water to get rid of it and then slowly the itching slowed up and the lumps went away,
I always buy Cenovis multi B since then and never had a problem since, i never checked the use by date on that bottle, i suppose i should have, but i sure can understand you not wanting to take another AL acid. I hope your feeling better now, Brian :) |
Thanks Brian
and to think I was actually looking forward to this stuff arriving! LOL!:D

if the Bcomplex
has nicotinic acid in it instead of nicotinamide...there can be flushing.
Most US B's have nicotinamide in them. |
