Weird symptoms, anyone have an idea??

I am actually asking this for my fiances sake, he's too stubborn-headed to do much about it himself:rolleyes:. The problem is this-quite often when he lays down to go to sleep at night, he gets what he calls a "hot tummy"...a 'hot, burning' sensation in his lower stomach (ab area). When he moves, rolls over, whatever, it goes away, but within a moment of laying still again, no matter what postion he's in, it returns. If he sits up, or is up moving around, there's no problem. He has tried medicine for both heartburn (even though the sensation is lower than his stomach), and RLS. Nothing has worked so far....he has talked to his doc about it, and his doc says it sounds like RLS, just in his belly instead of his legs. Beyond that, and rx'ing him the meds, his doc is clueless. I've tried to find info on the net, but no luck so far. Sooo, any ideas? Thanks

It doesn't sound like RLS.

OK, this is a difficult symptom and MD's are guessing it looks like. Poor guy.

If it were ME, I would see both my specialized nutritionist and my guru of a chiropractor, why? Becuase they have the most amazing evaluations and equipment. Some times it has nothing or much to do with the area where they pain/problem is.

For example, there was a guy who had SEVERE pain in his leg yet no x rays, MRI's etc could find anything wrong with his leg and no med eleviated the pain. He went to one of these highly trained chiropractors in NRT (Nutrition reponse testing) and what they found is that when he went to catch a ball in a softball game, he slammed into a wall hence the leg pain. ONLY when this happened it put his heart into some kind of shock or trauma that ended up blocking the electrical fllow from the brain to the injured area. When they treated the heart problem his pain miraculously went away!!! NO MEDS nor other treatment.

So if you could find a chiro practor or nutritionist that uses this NRT or sometimes its called ART (autonomic response testing) its worth a try.

DOCs will run up multiple tests and meds. Never knowing if it will help or not, see?

Good luck, great gal for helping your loved one tho.

OMG, I have something similar!

I was just looking for some forums where I can ask about some of my bizzaro symptoms and I found your post. See if this sounds similar to what your fiance suffers with:

My legs get warm at night. Not burning and not hot to the touch, but from the knees down, I feel like its 120 degrees in the room and I can't get comfortable. When I go to bed, they are typically okay at first, but 1-2 hours later I wake up with them feeling warm. I move them to a new spot on the sheets and they feel cooler for about 15 seconds, then they feel warm again and I move them again, add nausium. Eventually I give up and get out of bed and read a book for 20-40 minutes, then I can go back to bed.

I've been taking gabapentin (neurontin) for 4 years, once a day, just before bedtime, and it does help me. I see a neurologist and I am diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy AND RLS, but I'm not sure this is actually RLS, but it is similar in some ways.

Rls

Restless Leg Syndrome has to be the worst named disorder ever. It can occur in the legs, arms, or torso. It is not a movement. It is a weird sensation that makes you want to move. Weird sensations that only occur at rest, even in the torso, could be RLS. It can take quite a bit of trial and error to get a med that works. And don't forget to have your ferritin levels checked. Ferritin (iron) below 50 can cause RLS.
