Dauchshund Back Surgery and Acupuncture
About four months ago, our beloved mini dauchshund had to have major back surgery for a slipped disk. She also had preventative fenestration work done.
However, recently she is having what seems to be some minor discomfort when she goes to the bathroom. I heard there is a doctor in town that treats for this type of thing using accupunture. Has anyone heard of doggie accupuncture for back pain and/or post op pain? Thank you. |
I am so sorry about your dog, we have just had to have our Springer spaniel put to sleep due to a nasal tumour.
I do not know about accupuncture for dog's however on google it does show pictures of dog's have accupuncture done. This link tells you where they put the needles in. . This link tells you about canine acupuncture. . Hope these help Alison |
Vowel Lady, yes I've heard of it and there is a vet in our town who practices that. But I haven't ever used their services.
My daughter and son-in-law have a mini dachsund, and I worry about the way my SIL sometimes rough houses with Otto, tossing him in the air like ... well I don't know like what! Like men do with little kids, who knows why! My daughter convinced him to stop doing that for fear of injuring his back. I love dachsies, they are so warm and cuddly. Like having a heating pad in bed with you. :winky: |
Ali...I'm rushing right at the moment, but later I will check your link. Many thanks. It's always helpful for me to educate myself first about something new.
Doody...I have had many dogs and loved them all. But one day I visited a family (actually for the weekend...long story) with a mini dachsie and I was IN LOVE. I think folks were a little ticked that I spent so much time with the DOG! I was AMAZED. They have no idea (or care) that they are so little. However, I cringed when you mentioned that your relative rough houses with her doggie. Ours was very hearty and healthy and we were careful, but did let her on the couch and so forth. A few times she jumped off the couch when we weren't looking. (They have a mind of their own). I think that is what did it. I hired a neuro surgeon for the surgery. He has a medical degree and a PHD. It was a very complicated surgery. She was paralyzed. She is now walking. I did the pt on my own (the doctor taught me), but I think she needs some more. I'm STILL PAYING THE BILL. People think I'm a nut for paying for all of this. I am ga ga for this dog...as you can tell...they are awesome!!!!!:D |
I know, they are too precious. I get to see Otto, the mini dach, (and of course my precious grandson) tonight for my Friday night movie night with my daughter. Otto will sleep with me as usual. I love the way the mini dachs tunnel, LOL! He scoots under the covers and winds around until he finds a nice place to curl up and cuddle, usually right in front of my tummy or behind my legs. I swear, just like a heating pad they are.
