I am just recovering from my second spine surgery c5-6 acdf in may 06 then revision c5-6 in april 07, well i have been having a olt of pain so decided i needed a mri of the whole spine (why no one thought of this is beyond me) well it came out that c3-7 are all herniated all lumber are herniated with l4-5 being stenonic, but the worse is the thoric 6-7 herniated , t7-8 herniated and compromising the spinal cord., my surgern took one look at the mri and said no one ever herniates the thoric area( well hello) he said he wouldn't touch me ,sent me to his pm who took one look and said he wouldn't toucch me either to dangerous went to another neuro said he ususlly sends people like me to my surgen, well what now. i am going to new pm on monday praying he can help but not too optomistic, is there anyone else out there that has had this problem and if so want did you do and what was the outcome, please help it is getting harder each day just to get out of bed no less work, and my job is a very phsyical job, sorry about how long this is but really need some in put, what should i tell pm etc. thank you deb

good grief - none of them wrote anything for modified work??
NONE OF THEM WOULD AT LEAST HELP YOU IN THAT WAY {sorry hit caps} Did any of them say if the work would be worsening to your condition?? It sounds like it would be. But now that the MRI is done and shows the problems - I believe your own primary MD could write a note about work limits. I hate to ask but was some of this damage due to work or a work injury? Work comp claims aren't fun but if this condition was caused by the job you might talk with some work comp attys. { they might have some drs names for you} You might talk {consult/interview?} with some about the whole situation before going any further. to see what options you have. Unless you know for sure that the job had nothing to do with your condition. |
thanks for the reply
It was a work injury but i didn't know for 8 months so worked with all that neck pain till finally i foound out that i herniated c5-6 really bad, i had to jump off a falling ladder 12 feet to parking lot, and since i work for a small church didn't want to get there rates higher (i know dumb). anyway since i was out for 5 months in 06 and came back in modified duty, they told me i couldn't come back till i could work full time again, so dumb bunny that i am went back to full duty, i have told them about the new diascovery and told them if i cann't do the job i will give them fair notice so i can train someone else, see i am the only janitor for the entire building and i do love my work but it is getting harder to do each day. I am a single parent of four with no outside help and just bought my house a couplr of months before injury, so upset don't know what to do anyone have any ideas for me thank you deb

mmm, tough situation.
But, I think now it is time to protect your family, your self and your health. Does the church even carry workers compensation ins? If they do- meet with a comp atty to find out what options you may have in that way. You have to think of the future of your family now. You might read and post on some of our other forums too- workers comp forum http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30 Social Security Disability- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28 Spinal Disorders Including all spinal cord injuries and diseases http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22 |
yes
yes the church does have workiers comp. but it is now over 2 yrs so its too late, always too late. they do give me there disibility when i am out which is 70% of my check ,which is about what i make after taxes anyway and the disibility lady was so nice that she left my case open anextra 2 weeks ,which is now over too, but she said if it didn't work to call her and they would gi ve me an additional 2 yrs, she never heard of anyone returning to work so soon after this surgery ,she said nthey either take a year or never return so she gave me a pat on the back. but i don't want to leave i love my job but it is getting to the point i cann't even get out of bed. i was thinking of sueing the 1st doc. as the next one said that he has fixed alot of that doc. misstakes can you believe that . the 1st doc was an nasty man, he even wrote on my discharge that i had no pain can you image that, i didn't really read it when i signed it becausse i was in so much pain. the next doc was very nice and concerned and anwsered all my questions until he my new mri now everyoone is trying to pass the buck , my primary wants me on the patch which i did get for a month, but now have to see if the new pm will give it it's the onl;y thing that helps, but 25 m is not enough. i just don't know anymore . thanks for your help and hope you have a painfree day deb
