"Surviving Adversity -- living with Parkinson's disease" is a compilation of 28 stories told by those coping with the disease. The book, written by Gord Carley, a publisher of magazines, directories and niche newspapers for 20 years, was motivated by his mother's ongoing battle with Parkinson's disease.

A professional golfer, former attorney general, highly respected broadcasting icon, acclaimed lawyer, legendary cyclist, children's author, neurologist and 21 other men and women Carley knows are all living with Parkinson's disease -- a neurodegenerative condition that currently has no cure. These individuals, ranging in age from 29 to 95, share their inspiring stories of how they have adjusted to Parkinson's disease. The advice they provide is powerful and applicable to anyone facing difficult times.

Carley said Parkinson's disease is growing rapidly -- currently it is estimated that 1.5 million people are living with it in North America -- a number that is expected to rise to 3 million as baby boomers age. Environmental causes are suspected to be contributing to the increased incidence of the disease.

This book will benefit anyone who is living with an incurable disease as well as family members and caregivers. It will provide readers with hope and perspective.

Fifty percent of the net proceeds from book sales will go to Parkinson's research.

The book is a sequel to his first book, "Surviving Adversity -- The Collection."

Surviving Adversity - An Inspiration

Carolyn,
I have read this book and also recommend it. The stories of 20-some folks with Parkinson's are inspirational. As I read the book I marked my favorites. I still re-read them periodically and find inspiration in them. Thanks to Gord Carley for putting this book together.
