Price-sensitive testing supplies

Hi everybody!

I spent a fair amount of time the other night AGAIN searching for sources of reasonably-priced monitors and test strips. I just placed my first order with American Diabetes Wholesale, which had the best prices I have been able to locate ever. Even the top-of-the-line products are a lot less expensive. I will post back when I receive the order, but in the meantime, here's the URL.

www.americandiabeteswholesale.com

The price of strips has just about crippled me, so I ordered one of the low-cost monitors with equally low-cost strips. The limited information I could find said it's an okay product, and it's guaranteed for 5 years, not the typical 3, but I will check test results against the OneTouch I'm using now to make sure they come up with the same numbers.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Hi Buttons - Yes, these are the best prices I have ever found.

I do dollar searches every once in a while, and I was really impressed with what this place offers. It has lists of monitors and test strips by various manufacturers.

I was also using OneTouch Ultra. I just can't pay those prices any longer, and I even wrote to the manufacturer (LifeScan) with the hope they have a discount program for those of us who could use some help. (I have no health insurance, no prescription plan, nothing.) They do not.

So I decided to order the inexpensive Prestige monitor. I also ordered 200 strips for $65 total. (The cost for 200 OneTouch strips is $134 at this site, still a bargain compared to the nearly $200 my pharmacy charges). I will cross check the test results of Prestige monitor against the OneTouch and let you know about the accuracy.

Do you have prescription coverage for meds? Some Canadian sites have excellent prices for brand meds, and their generics are outstanding. I take Lamictal, which has a Canadian generic equivalent. The US has brand only. For this year I qualified for GlaxoSmithKline's free-drug program, but next year, on my current dosage, brand would cost me about $10,000 for this single med (one of a barrel full that I need each day). Canadian will be much, much less, and the US government announced last week that they will no longer be intercepting personal meds at the Canadian/American border.

I surely can't recommend or guarantee anything, but here is the one that I have used at times and I was very satisfied with prices, service, both brand and generic meds, etc.

Geeez, it's a minefield out here.

I hope some of this helps. You have a good week, okay?

Hi everybody!

I've been using the new monitor for more than a week, and it's accurate. I bought the Prestige IQ model, $13.25, and the strips are $16.25 for 50.

The downside is that the strips are not as easy to use as the OneTouch were. These have a little dot in the middle for the drop of blood, so it requires some target shooting. But other than that, I'm satisfied. A bit of an inconvenience and some concentration is okay, considering the savings. I had been paying about $50 for 50 strips, and for a self-pay person (I have zero health insurance), that's a pretty significant difference.

I hope this is of some value. Have a safe weekend.

Thanks for the update

Well, I did get a 12 mo. RX before I lost my health ins. so I'll stick with the Ultra One Touch until next year but this is certainly some good info to save for the future, also will most likely be ordering my strips now, thanks for the info! Every dollar counts!

Thanks for the info. My daughter was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and used my monitorm which is a one touch. I get the strips at Walmart pharmacy. I keep a monitor because I tend towards hypoglycemia myself, though the fatter I get, the higher my sugar tends to run! :D
Good info to have!

One more Canadian pharmacy

Hello everybody,

I've used this pharmacy as well and was very happy with prices and service. I prefer it over Hometown. Maple Leaf also has a flat shipping rate - $9.95 per box, not per med. Whatever fits in that same box goes out at the flat shipping fee.

http://www.mapleleafpharmacy.com

Prices:
I had the stun of my life when I had to buy Protonix 40 mg. at Walgreens. (My doctor's office had been helping with samples and ran out.)
* Maple Leaf has brand name at $2.42 per tab.
* Walgreens price, $4.10 per tab.

Avapro savings are not as dramatic but still worth my ordering it from them:
* Maple Leaf $1.50 per tab.
* Walgreens $1.72 per tab.

I hope this helps.

Walmart

Walmart has very good pricing. When I did not have insurance, I could buy a vial of Reg., 70/30., or H for $19.96 that was wonderful. I am now using a insulin pump... I really love it much tighter control.
