Hi! I have had M.S. since I was 18yrs. old and 9 yrs. ago my twin was told she had it too. This past May I was having this odd feeling in my whole body and my neurologists ran some test and it came back that I had a partial seizure and he put me on Keppera. I also have been on the med. Avonex since it was approved in 1996 to treat my M.S. It has been working great for me! I have not had a flare up for 4yrs! But one of the side effects of the Avonex could be seziures. I had a MRI done in May also to see if a new lesion was on the left side of my brain because the problem that I was having was just on the left side of my body. It showed no new lesions at all. I have never in my life time ever had a seziure until May of this year. My husband is in the military and was gone when this happened and I was very stressed and tired that morning when the seziure occured. My M.S. has not caused this problem but could the med. Avonex have caused this? I am on 1000mg of Keppera a day and I feel fine. I am just wondering about the Avonex? I've read that being stressed and tired can cause a seziure too. Any advice? AMHolland

Hi, AMHolland! :Wave-Hello: Welcome to NeuroTalk!

I have MS too and have only heard of a few cases of siezures with it. Whether it's due to Avonex, or the MS is anyone's guess, so I'll leave the guessing to the docs.

We have a great bunch of MSrs in our forum here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17

Come on over and hang with us in the MS forum, we take our disease very, very seriously (sort of).;) :icecream: :trampoline: :Head-Spin:

Amholland,

Hello and welcome to NeuroTalk. Great to see you have come to be with us. You will find a great number of caring, supporting members here willing to help each other as they can.

I am on Keppra for epilepsy and there is a good forum for cases. After having a spell I am sometimes pretty tired and that depends on how stess I am at the time. Hopefully you can find some answers in this forum as well as the one Cindy gave you.

Hello amholland and :welcome_sign: to NeuroTalk

I found a couple of links that might be helpful......

Avonex is to be used with caution in individuals with a seizure disorder. A few individuals with no prior history of seizures have experienced seizures while on Avonex. Since seizures are known to occur somewhat more frequently in people with MS than in the general population, it is not known whether these seizures were related to the MS, to the medication, or to some combination of the two.http://www.nationalmssociety.org/sit...feronbeta1aavo

2 to 5 percent of those with MS have seizures compared to 3 percent of the general population.
