Got my MRI on shoulder...
Hi all,
Well, it seems falls are contagious these days! I went in for the MRI on my shoulder from my fall in August. Oh, was it painful! By the time the MRI was over, I was in tears. The technician said the last one was blurry. It was so painful. I accidentally set it off this morning by lighting the stove this morning and when it "flared up" I jerked away... and ouch... the pain was so intense that I thought I would pass out. I broke out in a sweat, got nauseous, and had to sit down. Guess I'll find out the results in a few days. Surgery or no surgery. So, Yorkiemom, I feel your pain, figuratively and literally when you said you fell the other day. It is so frustrating when we fall and have to make yet "another" trip to the doctor for something. Keep us updated on your ribs Yorkie... Terri |
Its tuff....
...to lay motionless on that damn shoulder for twenty minutes !! Boy , does it ever hurt ! And I was always doing something to "tweak " it. That pain can sure take your breath away ! Hang in there and be patient very , very patient !

Hi. I'm sorry. I know when one thing after another happens its hard to not feel down. When it rains it poors was happening to me for awhile. I wish I had more ways to cope but I guess just reaching out to people for support and to keep hope this time will pass and better ones are ahead. Keep us updated and I hope you get the results son. Waiting in pain is the pits. Many hugs!

Have to re-do the MRI... too blurry!
Any suggestions on how to lay perfectly still while you are in excruciating pain?
I don't know how they expect a person to lie still for 25 minutes while the pain is causing them to shake uncontrollably. Any suggestions? My physical Therapist said the results said there was definitely a tear, but they were too blurry and needed to be re-done. I am going to email my doc to find out if I can get a serious pain pill before I go in for the next one. :( I guess the only benefit of having this torn rotator cuff is that it has taken my mind off the pain of my PN for a while  I really need to hurry up and get this taken care of because my insurance expires at the end of December! Then I have to go back to work. I know I should be on disability, but unemployment pays twice as much as disability, and I can't survive on disability. I would lose my car if I went on disability. Remember, I live in Silicon valley and the cost of living here is outrageous! Just to rent a 9' X 10' bedroom is costing me $550.00 a month! Any suggestions on how to get through an MRI without moving with the shoulder pain would be helpful! Thanks, Terri |
Call the doc...
...get a pain pill. I wish that I had done so.

Ouch!!! Maybe even two pain pills?
So what is the game plan for a torn rotator cuff? Surgery? An article in the paper this morning was pushing for a National Health Insurance Plan, similar to what Canada has... I am not sure exactly what that plan is about or how Canada's works. I sure hope you don't have to have surgery. Cathie |

I'm so sorry you're in that kind of pain on top of all else you have to deal with. |
When I fell the last time (a few months ago), my doc wanted
an MRI of my neck and shoulder. She Rx'd muscle relaxers for me, immediately. They will not only help with the pain, but take the stress out of the muscle so that it lessens the cramping and spasms- & heals more quickly. |
Perhaps sedation
Maybe they could give you some sedation. Talk to your doctor and tell him you are shaking from the pain and that the MRI was blurry because you were hurting so badly that it was impossible to lay still.
I can definitely understand this. I had to have an unexpected MRI (neuro demanded it be done right then because she's afraid my back is broken again) and I could not lay flat without pain medication. I have a sore jaw today from gritting it during all the muscle spasms I had during the MRI. Please talk to your doctor before you spend the money on another useless MRI. Billye |
