crohns

Hi all- my younger son has been having recurring diarrhea or loose stools with mild cramping preceding it. the GI doctor says he has the antibody associated with crohns, and most people who have this, do indeed have crohns, so she is recommending a colonoscopy as well as an xray. The antibodies to wheat came up negative. The genetic test for celiac is not back yet. He feels that with or without dairy is the same to him. I wonder if he should have an allergy test tho for casein. We have a distant relative with crohns too. My son ,like many aged 18, has been on many antibiotics in his time, and doctor says that s. boulardi has proved helpful for crohns. Please any comments or advice will be appreciated. ( of course, not my main concern , but doctor annoyed me by asking my son if he'd rather i leave room because he(my son) showed irritation to a few of my questions. so i left the room at his request. then, i was told by secretary that i was standing too close to the door, thereby violating the hippa law. At that point, my son walked out and he was annoyed at them for saying that to me-I hate doctors!and their secretaries!!!!!)

Hi Limpia
my son has crohn's and has been in remission for months now by using special supplements and diet.

he started on azocol and azinine (sp?) but it was not good for him. He now takes boswellin/curcumin, slippery elm, white willow bark and DGL-liquorice root (MUST be the DGL form) as well as a daily Genisoy protein shake and careful watching of what he eats.

He used to be in agony with pain and endless digestive woes, anemia etc with the Crohn's but is really doing well.
We got a lot of the dietary tips in The Maker's Diet book by jordan rubin, who had debilitating crohn's himself once.

hope this helps
Cheri
ps my son is not gluten or casein intolerant

thanks so much- this son is less willing to listen to me than my ts son- but i will try to investigate and incorporate alternative remedies. I need to hear more from people out there. also- is there an alternative MD in the NY area anyone knows?

hi- i guess i am replying to myself- well- my son's acne is bad lately, but he doesnt believe me that acne and crohns are connected thru the gut, inflammation , malabsorption etc He likes refined carbs , dairy etc no matter what good soups etc that i cook for him- Has anyone here seen a crohns acne connection? Doesnt it make sense in an 18 yo especially one with crohns?

There are always a lot of people on the crohns-colitis forums (I sometimes look at the crohns-colitis newsgroup, you can access it via google groups for instance) that report getting better on the SCD diet. No refined carbs there.
Also, I found a note some months ago on the internet that xome scientists have found a gene in crohns patients that cause them to not be able to get rid of certain cell wall deficient bacteriae like they should. (there is alot on the bacteriae theory on the internet too). Also, there are trials going on with LDN and crohns http://www.hmc.psu.edu/colorectal/re...naltrexone.htm and you can read more about LDN on the internet http://ldn.proboards3.com/index.cgi http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/en..._uids=17222320

limpia
have you had him tested for candida (yeast infection in gut)?

We used Candida Clear by NOW and were amazed at how my son's acne cleared while using it. I have heard and read other reports of some acne being related to candida overgrowth

you might want to investigate...

fructose intolerance. I just discovered this in myself...

Had to stop putting honey in my tea, and using anything with added fructose.
Some fruits like apples/apple juice also set me off.

Lots of gas and bloating and looseness... so check the diet.

thanks u guys- both good ideas- the test for candida - am not sure if it was done- need to check- Or can we try the product with no possible side effects?
i hate his doctor and intend to change doctors-
question- in general, would a gastro doctor prescribe a test with no gastro symptoms, or let's say neuro symptoms/acne symptoms?

homer 12-24-2007 07:20 PM

oh- and Mrs D- the doctor acknowledged the fructose intolerance test when i mentioned it- but seemed to not want to do it- saying that it is only done at university labs.
