Your View: ALS research needed

Our daughter in Colorado, Kerry Alvarado, was diagnosed in 2005 with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.


It began with slurred speech and has progressed to where she cannot, speak, eat or walk. She uses a ventilator to breathe.

Congress needs to commit the resources to learn the cause of this disease and how to treat and cure it.

It is important to note that twice as many veterans as the general population are being struck with ALS.
