Well, sounds great in theory. I do kind of wonder the potential implications of 'registering' nationwide?? It would definately be nice to be on the frontline of treatments both successful and unsuccessful.

BTW...Vincent's RDI consultant will be coming here all day Saturday. I'm losing in my efforts to 'apply' RDI, so she should be able to guide me. I can't wait.

That's a tremendous waste of money what all autistics need are consistently cool, calm people, compatible to each, compassionate people, willing to get to know the autistic, willing to learn how the particualr autistic communicates, where their interest lies, and after building rapport and trust to guide them through every aspect on life.

Those good staff knew that singing made the autistic happy, they responded to soft talking, they knew that they reflected their emotional state so staff were happy, all smiles and the autistic responded in kind.

The autistic are people-dependent, they need good people not pills.

They should invest money in salaries for those people willing to be companions for the autistic.

I remember some staff were willing to divide their week at 2 days and half to give as consistent, even care for my son and for others. They noticed that some of the autistics got along so they were willing to work 1 to 2, which was much cheaper. Or, 2 to 3, that means there were 6 staff around the clock caring for 9 and plenty of activities willing to share, etc.

Good people makes a difference.

I have a few questions for ya'll and was going to post it on a new post but wouldnt remember what they were since they are on here so I can scroll down..

What does RDI mean? I've seen it posted on quite a few posts but dont know what it means or what it is...

Oh... Isabelle (I love that name.. Its my grandmothers name also :) ) said that Autistics are people dependant. From what I had heard and maybe seen they (autistics) like to be in thier own little world. How do you mean people dependant? This is all so new to me. I would like to learn the different "techniques" of working with and living with Aspergers/Autistic children and people. Maybe it can help me work with Adam.

His counselor said if we were going to get a diagnosis of AS for him as she was seeing then she knew of some ways of working with him (he wont talk to her.. He tells her to ask me what is bothering him... Like I know :rolleyes: :confused: ).. I figure if she even THINKS he is AS.. Then why not go ahead and start treating him like that. She said possibly when she see's him again in two weeks she would give me info on AS.

RDI stands for Relationship Development Intervention...which really doesn't mean a whole lot more than the initials cause that phrase could have so many meanings.

If you go to www.rdiconnect.com you will have more reading than you know what to do with. It is the first thing I've ever felt this good about not only for my son, but myself both as an aspie and as his mother. I feel it teaches him to be at his best, not just a bunch of empty skills, it teaches FUNCTION not behavior.

GinaMarie, thanks! I love that name too and it is my third. My parents couldn't agreed how to call me so I ended up with 4 names.

At all events to be a companion for the autistic doesn't need specific "techniques", ok, helps to have a frame of mind to spend time with the autistic and observed the particular behaviours and see where/when you can "go in" to participate and see if the person looks up at you, give her/him a big smile and soft talking.

I had a notion that the adult autistics were beyond help, that they were mentally retarded and obnoxious and I saw one that fitted that description but when we made "contact", to my surprise he responded to me. Believe me they know who to trust.

All 4 of my boys also have 4 names. Each have a Bible name. Then my first was going to be Nathan Michael but then my brother had a son "Kristoffer" who had died at 2 months old. So I gave Nathan "Kristoffers" name for a memorial. So he became Nathan Michael Kristoffer H... THEN.. I knew I had to do with all the boys so they wouldnt feel left out or cheated.. So they all got 4 names..

Nathan Michael Kristoffer,

Eric Andrew Caleb,

Adam James Raymond,

Noah Arthur William.

And pretty much each name has a story behind it also. :) ;)

Tho my second son.. I had wanted to name him Caleb and his dad didnt.. but come Kindergarten...we started calling him Caleb because there was another Eric in the class and we asked if he wanted to be called Caleb (a soldier in the bible) or be called Eric H :p .. He chose Caleb :D. NOW at 14 he goes by either Eric or Caleb. lol Tho he even has had the nerve to say he wants to go by Andrew... lol I've told people I've created a son with a personality disorder. lol :rolleyes: .

NOW If I would have had a girl or two..

the first would have been named - Faith Moriah Lynn and the other would be Kathryn Belle Marie. :) BUT the boys dad's parents... have 10 grandsons.. NO grandaughters.. soooooooo No girls on this side.. :(
