sudomotor testing versus skin biopsy
 

This abstract may have been posted before, but I just found it...so I thought I would post it, since we have so many questions regarding epidermal nerve fiber density biopsies.

Personally, I did go thru the autonomic testing, including the TST, QSARTS, tilt table etc....and flunked several of those, prior to getting my skin biopsy. So they had an idea that I had small fiber prior to the skin biopsy. I passed out on the tilt with a BP of 50/30 and did not turn any orange powder to purple.

The skin biopsy was confirmatory of their diagnosis, and also gave them an idea as to the degree of loss.

Actually, the cardiologist did the tilt...that was how I got to the neuro (autonomic center) that I got to...the cardiologist found the autonomic problem and ruled out cardiac causes leaving neuro.

If they develop that test that allows the docs to count fibers in the skin of the pinky fingers that would be great. I think a lot of people will be eventually found to have SFN as I think it is probably more common than suspected.
