Exercise question

Hi there, I was wondering if, having poor balance on my left side, I can improve it by practicing things like the yoga position where you try to balance on one foot, (I don't know what it's called) or bike riding or lifting weights or some other exercise. I know our brains can grow new connections after a stroke and compensate, so... Can we compensate for our PD the same way, or am I off here, does anyone know? Thanks, FG

Hi Florida ...

I don't know if we can compensate through exercise however the benefits of exercise on PD are generally accepted and documented. There are many references to it on this forum.

Remember the old PD saying "use it or lose it", I try to exercise every day, and it gives me nothing but benefits. I do feel that my strength and balance have improved.

Howardh has PD and owns a gym in NZ, he may have some tips if you mail him.

Enjoy the Florida sun,
Neil.

Exercise seems to be the one sure alternative treatment for PD

...There is a load of research to support this ... some research says that exercise changes the physiology of the brain for the better ..
There is no agreement which type is better ... so I do alternatively Yoga .. Tai Chi .. cycling and walking ..
I believe all are useful in different ways and the combination is best ..
I do at least an hour every single day ..
I take cold shower after ..
Good luck
