Parkinson's mistaken for bipolar

For 8 years I was treated for bipolar. I went through the depths of the depressions as well as the mixed states. In the past 3 mo. I have seen 3 neurologists. It turns out that depression is a major sign of Parkinson's. (Believe it or not a change in handwriting is another symptom, so is a loss of smell.) They all said that I never was bipolar. Parkinson's can lay somewhat dormant for 10 years. Maybe we ought to think about seeing a neurologist before allowing ourselves to be put on a lifetime of mind altering drugs.

I am sorry you were misdiagnosed. Thank heavens you were finally able to find a doc who came about the truth.

Thank you for the warning as well. It is truly appreciated.

As my symptoms came on, my primary doc sent me to a neuro. I have been through every test imaginable.

So, your post has actually brought me comfort and given me one more step towards embracing my own diagnosis.

Take care. I will be hoping for a cure for you to be discovered soon. I hear they find out more and more every day.

:confused: I was always diagnosed a severe chronic depression along with General Anxiety Disorder,,, blah blah blah,I still acted the same and the depression wasn't really taken care of.:Trapeze 2: this was me.

Once I was DXed a BP II and a bit of Border Line Personality and a bit of ADD put on a mood stabilizer and the other meds, I was a new person, someone I like, someone I should of been years ago.:Sob:

It's a amazing fact that depression leads to Parkinsons in some cases, yet you really don't say that BP leads to Parkinsons.:Scratch-Head:

Depression is yes a part of BP. I wouldn't just go off my meds, get a second opionion or third. Because don't you think people could have both??????:Poke:

Just analyzing this.

They say BP is heridtery and so is suicide, but in my family history, can't seem to find anyone. Except my cousin's daughter has just recently been DX'ed at 16 at BP.
