pain radiating from my right heel up my leg

this just started and I will make a doctor's appointment but was wondering if this pain could be part of peripheral neuropathy

it started one night and is very distinctly in the heel of my right foot and goes all the way up my leg but not all the time and it does not feel muscular but nerve related

I am going through a lot of stress right now but this seems very different. If anyone could give me some idea for a search I would appreciate it

could be

sciatica. Sciatica is often felt in the feet.

Are you having muscle tension/spasms/twitching anywhere?

Magnesium supplements or foods high in mag may help relax muscles that are pinching nerves. And yes, stress is tough. Your stress especially.

Doctors have found that stress constricts certain blood vessels in the back, neck or wherever and this leads to less blood supply and then ischemic pain.
Magnesium dilates blood vessels and helps relax them. It also calms overactive nerves.

I have a magnesium thread here:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1138.html
There are foods you can choose to improve your magnesium levels, and some drugs actually deplete magnesium. Magnesium is lost during stress too.

thanks

good to see you. the reason I posted here is that I read that pain with sciatica radiates from the hip downward. so the description here sounded more compatible with my symptoms. Plus I had been sleeping with my left leg over my right ankle and I think that messed up my foot some.

I would be glad to try a magnesium supplement however and see my doctor.

thanks again and i will keep you posted on any news about my son

My friend Bob,has suffered from Sciatica for some time, after seeing many
specialists,i read ,what Mrs.d said he has been taking Mag. and has not
had any pain. I hope you see your Dr. and try M. With your foot and
leg hanging over, please try if you can to stop that or maybe if you try a
pillow between the knees that might help. Hugs to all...

Mrs. d my 91 one yr. old Aunt uses b12 for PN in feet. Can you reccoment
something for her 1 knee. She has try cortisone shots, they don't last,
and is afriad of pain pills. I believe you said a tradmeal hurt your knees,
and I couldn't remember what you switched to,thisis from my next door neightbor...Thanks for letting me break in,and thanks for any help..Hugs Sue

for simple pain?

At 91 that's pretty late for a knee thing!

Lidoderm patches behind the knee, numb the nerves that cause pain there.
I cut one up in half and use it on the thigh behind the knee right before the bend. It really cuts pain when placed there.

Does she have cartilage left? or is is bone on bone? If bone on bone, there is little that can be done.

At 91 however, alot depends on her heart status etc. Lidoderms may not be for her depending on whatever else she has wrong with her at that age.

If she can use aspirin, not allergic whatever, there are patches called Salonpas that work for minor pain. I put them on front of my knees if I overdo sometimes.
I use these on my feet mostly however.

There are several types, the one above is the one with active ingredients.
