Seasonique? No Thanks!
 

I've made a few threads regarding a few things, which are in relation to this post. One of them regarding my diagnosis of these certain uterine cysts I was having, another regarding long-painful cycles and then this one about my weird vein swelling.

For as long as I can recall I have had irregular, long and painful peroids. I started to have even more problems with them, so I had the option to remove some choice organs or try to stop my cycles AND shrink the cysts via birth control pills (I can't have kids, btw). I went on constant seasonique. The first month or so wasn't bad, it was the time following that where I'd bleed for some 30+ days straight and upon questioning my GYN was told this was 'normal' while I "adjusted to the medication".

After never ending bleeding, I started to have leg cramps and my veins kept swelling up and down. I assumed this was related to Lyme or just my bad luck with health related issues. Apparently not. I showed my 'big veins' to not one, but three providers: my rheumatologist, my GYN and a family practitioner. It was the 4th person I showed that actually appeared to be concerned and decided to investigate the big vein issues- (which at this point, this has been going on for ~3 months. I showed it to my NP who was giving me the results of my pelvic ultrasound - which, by the way, showed my cysts didn't shrink from the birth control, instead a new one grew and is currently the size of a 'plum'. Nice, right?

So far, instead of shrinking the cysts I got new, bigger ones. And instead of stopping my period, it made it never stop. What else? Blood clots! Hooray!

I've since then stopped taking them (which I'm sure you guessed) and my periods are back to their 'normal' 7-10 days with 5 days of pain, which is better than 30. I have to follow-up still with the cyst, but can't do that right now. I had a few days of some pills for the clots and have checked out OK.

I have learned this.

While something may suck, if you try to 'fix' it, it may end up sucking more. I am content with my dysfunctional yet functional periods. :D
