BCAA and neuropathy
Do you know anything about if and how can BCAA help to neuropathy?
I heard about it in the store, but without any explanation. Thanks |
Bcaa
meaning Branched Chain Amino Acids?
This is whey protein, and has the aminos ready for absorption. This includes tryptophan in good amounts, and tryptophan is used to make serotonin, which helps to reduce pain perception. Tyrosine is in there too, as well as phenylalanine...all 3 make various neurotransmitters. People who do not digest protein well (no stomach acid) would not have enough aminos getting into the body for repair. If you want to heal anything, taking aminos is good. After surgery for example. But I think for nerves, equally important are essential fatty acids. They are used to repair the nerve membranes and sheaths. They use B12, folic acid and B6 to accomplish that. |

thanks for the explanation.
My neuro thinks that in my case - the neuropathy is because of some demage to the sodium cannals. It is only an hypotesis. Is there any test to check it? |
some reading...
This is quite complex... most articles contain information about using drugs to block sodium channel misfiring...
http://www.ionchannels.org/showabstr...?pmid=17997706 Click on the other links to read more. This article explains more (a genetic connection perhaps) http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache...nk&cd=11&gl=us here is an article using vinpocetine to affect the sodium channels: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m..._6/ai_71948220 http://www.raysahelian.com/vinpocetine.html http://www.ionchannels.org/showabstr...p?pmid=9082841 something to discuss with your doctor, for sure. I am not seeing any hits for BCAA and sodium ion channels. But I do think anyone with a neuro disorder should consider EFAs, because of their multi uses in the brain and nerves. |
