Too Many Iv's And Blood Tests

HI EVERYONE,
ON NEW YEARS EVE, I ALMOST LOST MY LIFE. I WASN'T FEELING WELL AND COULD NOT BREATH AT ALL. JUST GETTING UP TO GO TO THE BATHROOM TOOK MY BREATH AWAY. i HAD JUST ABOUT STOPPED BREATHING WHEN 911 WAS CALLED. COME TO FIND OUT I WAS BLEEDING OUT AND THEY FOUND 5 ULCERS. AFTER 5 PINTS OF BLOOD AND SO MANY BLOOD CHECKS MY HANDS AND ARMS HAVE BEEN IN SO MUCH PAIN. MY QUESTION IS COULD THE RSD HAVE SPREEAD TO MY ARMS AFTER ALL THOSE TESTS. THER ISN'T A SPOT ON MY ARMS AND HANDS THAT WASN'T SPARED THE NEEDLES. I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE RSD BUT NO ONE KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT IT.MY REGULAR DOC THINKS MY ARMS AND HANDS SHOULD HEEL AND FEEL BETTER, BUT NOTHING LIKE THAT HAS HAPPNED YET. ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS WOULD BE HELPFUL.

THANKS
SUE K

Hi there,
I am so sorry about everything that you are going through ((hugs))
Yes, it is possible for the RSD to spread after a needle/injection although it is not that common. If you are still in a lot of pain, I would suggest talking to your PM doctor.
I hope you are feeling better now
Take care

Hi Sue,
So glad 911 was called in time. There are many cases of rsd spreading by the use of a needle. I never allow blood to be draw on my original hand injury site. There are many examples of rsd spreading or even originating thru a needle injection. Even in having dental work, I have the area numbed before needle injection. I have full body rsd so I have laughing gas before procedures, others have blocks before surgery, It would be good to ask your Dr. anything and everything you might do to prevent spread So many know very little about spread and causes.Take care and keep reading. Everytime I get on this forum and other sites, I learn more and more But I also need to take breaks from information overload. That's not healthy for me and can even promote depression. So I try to balance and notice My feelings.
Sincerely, loretta jewell

So Sorry

Sue, so sorry for the terrible , terrible scare you have had with you life. I dont know if you are on pain meds but that is a risk we all take with all of the rsd pain - the warning pains of other illness are so minor in comparison we ignore them.
I am so relivied you are still with us- hope you can take time to realize how close things were and go a little slower with things- it is such a reminder for me. Dont want to be preaching - it kind of frightened me for myself too.
On the IV's I do know that if you have rsd in the limb that they are putting the IV in it will and can cause a terrible flare up- or worse if you have full body- spread it back to an area that might have calmed down. That has happened to me on more than one occasion. When ever possible I have IV's in my " best arm".
Good luck to you rest and get better. Sincerely, CZ

Venipuncture

Hi Sue,
I definately think it's possible. I actually believe the cause of my CRPS caused by hitting a nerve or muscle at the site.

I have had other limbs other than my left arm affected by now. I'm going through some testing now, to make sure it's not something else like Lyme or Rheumatory Arthritis etc. but I strongly believe I have it as does my Orthopedic Surgeon. I have burning (mostly when cold). Cold limbs all the time, swelliing in 3 of my limbs and shiny red/bluish skin etc.

It seems funny all this started after attempting to donate blood, wouldn't you say? Could be a quincidence if I had swollen joints I didnt know about which caused her to hit something, but who the heck knows. I'll find out soon (I hope)

Anyways, so glad you are alright. That must have been such a frightening experience for you. My heart goes out to you and I hope it never happens again.

Please take care!

GHL

I got a spot of RSD at an injection site on my good arm but it faded over a couple years.

Good luck.

edited to add that I should have mentioned there was a lot of pain when they did the injection.
