My 16 year old is headed to Washington DC
 

Wow, he got his letter today saying that he was one of the chosen.
And congratulations. He is one of 50 to get to go and talk to congress.

I've got to admit I was sure he wasn't going to get a invitation after
I registered him for the chance. Because I found that someone had
put the application on a forum that is a place that others like me
work. And it had me worried, one of their kids is just the right age
to be a Kids Speak Up Child this year.

I thought she would be chosen.

But Derrick and his Dad will go. I'm so happy I finally can make up for
the time I took away his Dad's chance to see what a great job Derrick
does. I've seen him many times. But Dad had to go to the hospital
with me 2 years ago.

So I'll buy my own air ticket or if my husband decides we drive then we
drive. He is really leaning that way. And its okay with me. Something
really neat could happen that way.

I'm just so tickled for my son. Now to get all the things done that have
to be done to talk to congress. And I still have one wish that I would
like to get for him.

He wants to meet the president. The last time, all that happened was
the first lady sent him some awesome pictures.

Wish I knew someone that knew the president.

I don't know anyone in power. But I remember a theory that all of us know someone who knows people in power. . . . sort of like that degrees of separation thing.

He has epilepsy. And he will talk about what its like to have epilepsy.
But not make epilepsy his life.

This year will be a good one for him to go. He can really give them
the good and bad.

His dad is his parent going with him. But I'm going for the Public Policy
part. I fell the last time we all went. First time his dad ever went.
He spoke to congress without his parents. Just someothers from Indiana.

So this will be nice.

Donna your gov. Mitch Daniels knows the president...you might try calling or writing his office and asking for his help. Congrats to your son on being chosen. :hug:

We go March 30- April 1st.

I already sent a letter to the GOvernor, or a email that is.

I've sent him emails before so hopefully this will get some thoughts.
THey are of the same party also.

Also know that one of the bestest friends I have on the nets son
has been chosen to go this year too. This is fantastic too. Because
even though the first time Kevin went, my husband paid so I could
go meet my friend.

The two kids have never met. So they will get the chance. And
I'll get to see my friend again. Its the one internet friendship I
don't ever have to worry about losing.

ALso its just a few days before my birthday. So its kind of a double
wammy for me. My birthday is my favorite holiday, but at home we
don't celebrate it. The year I met up with 4 of my internet friends.
They had a birthday party for me it was a surprise.

I'm not expecting a early one, but its just so nice to be with a friend
so close.
