Hi Deb, The deep bone pain of RSD/CRPS is thought to be in part from osteoporosis. There are times when our serum calcium can be normal or high but our bones are deficient. Pamidronate Infusions have been used to try and move some calcium from our blood into the bones to help relieve the pain. I wonder if you would be a candidate for this treatment. Unfortunately whilst too low serum calcium is detrimental to us, too high serum calcium is also as it can cause renal problems and vascular issues when calcium deposits itself in places it shouldn't be. I have had Pamidronate Infusions which unfortunately made me very sick as I quickly became calcium deficient in my blood, I now take Calcium supplements daily to try and keep this regulated. Good luck with this, I hope you can get some normality back to your levels soon. Love Tayla:hug |
Should also get your parathyroid levels checked just to be sure this is not affecting it.

Thanks for your suggestions and replys- When I spoke with the Dr he wasnt concerned because it is just slightly high- My thyroid and all the other stuff a rheumatoid doc checks for were normal...
I think I am going to try the HBOT again |
My doc has filled out a labratory test for hematology profile, includes Hb, WBC, platelets, HTC, RBC indices, and diffrential when indicated. I go get it done tomorow.

I hope everything comes back OK tomorrow, Sandel.
Please let us know how you get on Thanks |
Hi Deb,
It is important to remember that we can't assimilate and process elemental calcium unless we have Vitamin D - it is not the most soluble of minerals either. As most people are less mobile with CRPS and probably have less sun exposure we can't rely on synthesising our own Vit. D in sufficient quantities. Two things to consider, initially: it may be either leaching in proportion to changed activity / sun exposure and as a result of the RSD but it could be as simple as needing the caltrate with Vit D added. This applies to people unaffected with RSD too.....or your diet may be adequate but you aren't assimilating it. Taylas' comments re serum Ca levels are spot-on. It may be worthwhile talking to your doc about this - a Vit D supplement might help, monitoring and then starting the supplement when homeostasis is again achieved. I would respectfully start with this discussion with your doc. If you need more bounce it back please. The last thing you want is a niggling thought to distress - RSD is bad enough. I do hope you can obtain an answer easily. Best regards Auberon |
Just had DEX done a couple weeks ago. Have Osteopenia in my hip areas so am now taking 1500mg of Calcium with Vit D daily. She said by doing this I should be A-ok. I am sure I will have DEX done when next she thinks it is time.
