Lryica

I am new at this site. I have neropathy in my legs and feet from diabetes. I also suffer from long term bipolar disorder. Today my shrink told me that the 150mg of lryica combined with my trasadone with help control my moods as well as my neropathy. This is great because it means some of my other drugs will no longer be needed.. The big worry I have is how much weight does one gain from long term use of lryica??? Does anyone else take this for bipolar???

Thanks.

You should definitely come on over to some of our other forums, specifically the peripheral neuropathy and bipolar forums:

Interesting claim about the meds; I can say that there are some doctors out there who are ascribing mood altering properties to Lyrica (PreGabalin), but generally, as a second-generation anti-convulsant, it is prescribed for nerve pain and seizure activites more often, and I think the jury is still out on mood-altering effects.

Lyrica can cause alot of weight gain , so if you dont want to gain weight I would ask your dr. for something else. welcome to the board

I just started Lyrica today for some mystery illness and am sooo worried about the weight gain side effect. I've alread gained 60# in a year and don't really want to gain anymore. I'm to weak to exercise so not sure how it will work.

Gook luck!

I was on Lyrica for about 4 months and had a tremendous weight gain plus leg feet and legs sweelling so much they hurt. Had to go off and it caused lots of brain fog for me. It did help my pain, yet can't use it due to the side effects.

Hi Venshore and Welcome to NT. I took Lyrica for a short while last yr, but it didn't agree w/me. I found myself feeling druggy and loopy. Some people have good luck w/it for pain control, but I have heard some complaints regarding wt gain.

You may just have to try it and see how it works for you. Good luck and let us know how it's going. :welcome_sign:

HI and welcome,

I was on Lyrica for 4 months and gained 20-25 lbs. It helped my pain though but the tradeoffs were too great.

Do a search up top, there are some posts in various forums about folks opinions on the drug.
