lutein?
I have blepheritis and dry eyes and have been going to many eye docs but was reasing about lutein supplement and was wondering if any one had thoughts? Is it ok to take and how much daily? Are there any issues or side effects with this supplement too?Thank you

Lutein...
is a carotenoid... comes from certain veggies.
You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutein I don't know of any harmful effects. It is mostly involved in the retina. I don't know if it will help your dry eyes. One thing that may irritate you is feather pillows. I'd switch to polyester, if you have feather anything on your bed. Feathers are very allergenic to some people. Once you get going on the EFAs, you might see improvement in the eyes. |
Thanks Mrs D always. Your so smart and thoughtful. I don't use feather pillow just regular. I am hoping the omegas will help. Really trying hard to get adequate in.

Hi, I've been taking Lutein and Bilberry (in the same supplement) pretty regularly for almost a year now with no adverse effects at all. The brand I prefer is by Solary. I actually have mild Blepharitis myself but that's not why I started taking it! I actually hadn't researched any supplements for that condition.
On a side note re: Blepharitis and making sure the margins are clean, I use a product called "Eye Scrub" several times a week. It comes as pads so it works really well in place of an eye makeup remover. |
Thanks yes I do that scrub and hot compresses too.

Ok question as it pertain to Vitamin A or beta carotene.
I take all my vitamins separately. I don't take an "A". Should I? |
Ok, Im wondering....
If lutein and vit A are carotenoids, should taking both be woo much !? Thanks in advance ! |

Thank MrsD !!!
I will keep taking both as Im obssesed with eye health !!! :) And, what else is good for eyes  |
Wearing quality sunglasses when outside is a must IMO.
Free radicals and UV damage the lens. Most of the antioxidant family help with the retina. Bilberry extract is an old favorite. But blueberries, strawberries and other fruits and veggies with color in them, high ORAC scores are helpful. |
